Open box GPUs?

Thread Starter
Recently I saw an open box GTX 570 for 160 bucks. I thought it was a steal. But then I saw the open box tag next to it. (Btw this is newegg) For people who have had experience with open box items: How good is the quality? What don't they come with? And such. Main question is: are the prices of the cards worth it?

They work as well as the retail versions in my experience. They come with the card inside an antistatic bag in a plain box. You'll need to use the cords and adapters that came with your monitor/previous video card. But if the price is right, open box is the way to go. :3

(edit: I should also mention that when I bought an open box 9600GSO from newegg, they sent me a 9800GT that I was able to OC as well or better than a GTS250.)

I haven't gotten any myself, but I've heard that you aren't guaranteed to get all the accessories that are normally included, or even the original box. People have often gotten cards that are practically new, while others have been used for a little while.

Open box is kind of a gamble, since you have to decide whether the savings are worth your time in case you have to RMA to the manufacturer or return it to Newegg. Just make sure the card has a good warranty policy like MSI or ASUS (serial-based), and you'll be covered.

I'm sure plenty of people have been happy with their cards though.
