=OC Help= PhenomII X4 970 BE

Thread Starter
I'll start off by saying that I am a novice in the world of overclocking, but I have done lots of research before coming here to ask for help. I am trying to achieve 4+ ghz cpu and 2.8ghz+ NB, but am stuck at 3.8ghz cpu and 2.6ghz NB.

My current stable OC is this:
cpuz3800.jpg

For my current stable settings, vcore is @ 1.345v and CPU-NB @ 1.24v and NB @ 1.1v (stock). My NB multiplier is at 13x giving me 2600mhz. For cooling I am using Hyper 212+ and @ 3.8ghz idle temp is 36.5c and load max is 50c.

Notable ? BIOS settings: C1E disabled, CnQ disabled and smartfan target disabled (these settings off force my CPU fan to run at max), chassis intrusion disabled, spread spectrum disabled, advanced clock calibration disabled.

My memory is recognized @ 1333mhz but is specified for 1600mhz, which I manually set in BIOS to 1:4 ratio. Ive messed around with the timings (as seen in above image) based on what Ive seen on forums for my specific model, and I think maybe my timings and speeds are causing problems when I try to achieve 2800mhz NB?

I have been trying to achieve a stable OC of 4ghz+ but I cant get above 3.8 without crashing under stress tests. I've been using AMD Overdrive stress test, and at 3.9ghz it crashes after 5+ minutes, and at 4ghz it crashes within 10 seconds of testing. Also, I havent been able to get my NB above 2600mhz even with voltage tweaking in increments from 1.25v-1.35v, it crashes within 10 seconds of desktop at 2800mhz, and sometimes even freezes my system and forces me to reset CMOS cause it wont POST.

I've included a lot of information here, let me know if you need more info. I appreciate any help/advice!

After disabling it you can hit 4GHz+ but you must increase your voltage to 1.45v, to reach 4GHz or 4.1GHz (MAX). With this mobo you can hit 4.2GHz/4.3GHz with 1.5v. As you know max safe voltage for AMD is 1.5v (that's for 7/24 usage) and 1.55v for benches. Enjoy. 5ffe3df81ffa.gif

I disabled spread spectrum as suggested, hoping it was the cause to all my problems... but it seems to have made no difference unfortunatly.

Since I disabled it, I upped my cpu multiplier to 19.5x for 3.9ghz, and still I crash during stress test after 3-5 minutes. HOWEVER... I was finally able to pass stress tests by LOWERING my NB multiplier to 12x for 2400mhz and CPU NB v to 1.15v.... This makes no sense to me... I am stable at 3.8ghz cpu and 2600mhz NB but to run stable at 3.9ghz I have to lower my NB to 2400mhz?

You need to increase your voltage to at least about 1.425v, 1.345v is just not enough. Also higher NB does not necessarily mean better stability. Your lowering of NB resulting in more stable overclock may be because of an unstable NB.

I tried your suggestion after your original post, and it resulted in crashes within the first 10 seconds of stress tests. I even tried tweaking the voltage starting at 1.455v up to 1.5v, and even changing my NB settings from 2600 > 2400 > 2200 >2000 @ 4ghz and still the crash always came immediatly in the stress test. When it crashes, I dont even get a BSOD, just black screen and then POST.

At the moment my best "stable" settings are at 3.9ghz with vcore@1.405v and NB 2.4ghz with cpuNB@1.15v and RAM at 800/1600 9-9-9-25-40-2T (stock ram settings)
