COOLER MASTER V8 any good?

I usually tend to take reviews with a grain of salt, even when it seems like most people that post there thoughts really have no idea what there talking about.
So for those of you who Own or know someone who has one, is it worth buying?

They're 'decent', but you can get one that'll do a much better job for the same price.

Let me recall a little history and you will understand the V8 better.

When i7 920/940/965 first came out with the then new socket 1366, CM was the first manufacturer to release a compatible cooler (ie the V8) on the same day. IIRC, Thermalright was 2nd to release a compatible mounting kit for their TRUE.

In other words, the V8 had no competition at all at that time and I got mine at that time period too. From my experience, the V8 does not perform badly at all and it has good looks (subjective though...but if this is what you are after, then it is a different matter).

But then is then and now is now. Now it offers no exclusivity of any kind. Furthermore, its price is relatively high and this high cost-to-performance ratio makes it non-competitive with other coolers. IMHO, it is even beaten by its younger brother V6GT. Its other weakness is that its single 120mm central fan is hard to change/replace.

This sums it up very well. If you're in the market for a new cooler, I would definitely consider a Thermalright.

Get a CM 212+ and call it a day. Why would you use an expensive cooler on your Propus anyway?

I bought mine only because the noctua d14. Was oos. Its decent..wouldn't pay over 40 bucks for it. Its mainly for looks I guess.. went well with my haf-x.

I've had one on a 1090T BE @ 4.0 since about February of this year. It does a good job and the temps are well below the recommended AMD max. No issues, it looks good, and it gets the job done.
