COOLER MASTER V8 any good? - Page 2

Its a decent cooler, its just expensive compared to the V6GT or 212+ which both do a better job (there are also others), its not bad, never gone over 50c, If I could choose now Id go with something else.

I'll let you know right off.
If you want the most extreme overclock you can get on air,
you might want to go with the Noctua D14 or the SilverArrow (which, does just barely better than the D14)

But they don't look as good in my oppinion..
I went ahead and bought the CM V8 and I absolutely love it.
with a 4.8 oc on the stock CM V8 I was idling at 34 and even in heavy gaming, never went above 50C, running prime for like a whole day I could hit a max of like 60 but it still averaged near 55, so thats great.
Also, I was able to oc my 2500k to 5.2 and was still completely stable and happy with temps. I just don't leave it there as I want my mobo and cpu to last as long as it can.
I did, however, mod my CM V8.
I added 2 additional fans on each side. So the one on the right pushed through, the center pulled and pushed, and the one on the left pulls it through. (This is the way it should have been made)

And seriously... I idle at like 27-32 and I dont see above 50 C unless I run prime95
It's a good looking cooler and works well.
Just make sure your case can fit it.
Check the height specs on their website.
If you want some pics, let me know, I need to post some anyways.

Edit: Also the V6GT does well, but thats only bcuz it has 2 fans, I like the look of the V8 better and if u do what I did, it outperforms the V6GT by leaps and bounds.
And No, the 212 does not outperform it, at all.
However the 212+ is a great low budget cooler, if u need to save money.
But hell, the V8 is only $45...

Like everybody else is saying.

The V8 is decent, and at the time it was one of the only options for high-end cooling. But now, with the tower and closed-loop options, it's middling at best, and overpriced for what it offers. For the record, buying a tower cooler with a single central fan is a fail (in my experience), as most don't have mounting kits to add fans on the front and back, requiring improvised methods (Example, electrical/duct tape). Sad, because that would give you three fans to work with instead of two on traditional towers.

If you want some more advice, let us know what hardware you're putting it on, and what you use your pc for.
Also, the ambient room temp is also good to know.

the V8 is not a bad cooler at all. had one for about a year till i switched to a ven X, and idle and load temps dropped by 5-6c. so its pretty close to the venomous x. it was a very good cooler during its time of release though.
