if you're serious about buying it, pm me. i don't mind selling it for the price I got it for, but after tax, i didn't get it much cheaper than list price. Not to mention i got the 2nd rev, which doesn't come with all the nice freebies.

Blaming the PSU is what people like to do, but 90% of the time it's not the case. If it was the PSU he would be experiencing random shutdowns, bluescreens, and other anomalys.

The first thing I would do is try to OC the 590 a bit, you should be able to get it up to 580 SLI performance at least, which should help your minimums a bit. If that's still not good enough, then drop the 590 and go with 3 6950(unlockable preferred), if your mobo has 3 PCI-E slots, don't worry if one is 4x, as it doesn't matter with 6950s. Otherwise you could just grab the 6990 and add a 6950(unlocked) or a 6970.

Good luck

Coming into threads and nay-saying without any alternate evidence is what people like to do as well. I provided a valid reason why it could potentially be the PSU, and it was only an idea to try that wasn't as expensive as buying a whole new graphics card setup. I agree, its not often the case but with a setup that is marginal its a possiblity. I would venture a guess that he might want to try and troubleshoot before calling it quits on a $750 purchase. It might not be much to you but not many people can't afford gear like that.

Again, its NOT the PSU if its a TruePower New 750 (TPN 750), as his machine would work fine off the TPN650 with a single 590.

Thanks for all the help so far guys.

As for the power supply, theoretically it should be able to handle it. But with all my components new, there's no saying which one is acting up. The video card or maybe the power supply.

I retested space marine with afterburner showing fps. It's solid 60 fps. I guess it just feels sluggish. Playing it on my htpc with a 6850 feels faster than my 590!

The 590 seems like a good card, but the biggest prob I have with it is the amount of VRAM. I want to be able to play it on my 2650x1440 screen and possibly a surround/eyefinity set up. From what I've seen, the people running multiple monitors or large resolution have to turn down aa. But my personal thoughts are, after paying that much money.... I don't want to have to settle.

I think I'm going to try a 6990. That way I can support 3 monitors right off the bat. I can later add another 6990 or 6970 for extra boost later on. 580 sli requires me to put down another 300-400 bucks extra on top of what I've spent already.

What made you sell your 6990s in favor of 580 sli?

Actually I've had 2 sudden shutdowns so far. But like I said, all my components are new. 2 bsods, I've been chalking it up to my SSD. After each shutdown, my SSD is no longer recognized in bios. I've been thinking it's a problem with the sandforce controller but could have something to do with the power supply.

So I'm not going to rule out anything yet.

First one died, second one wasn't really the performance I was expecting, so I tried something different.

As far as the SSD, what port do you have it plugged into on the motherboard? Make sure its on the intel SATA III not the Marvell controller, I had a lot of problems with my second SSD locking up the system and not getting recognized in the BIOS when I had it on the marvell port, seems to be the same problem X58 boards have.

Wow, away for 1 day because I blow up my computer and the amount of misinformation on the 590 blooms once again...

Must I really patrol this crap or can you all just learn to stop typing when you actually don't know what you're talking about...for real?

It's your power supply.

The 590 is actually a very good performer...Out-performs my 6990's in most applications...And considering it's stuck at 700mhz, that's saying something.

I'd keep your 590 but, understand that we are limited by drivers.

If you ever intend on going surround, you're going to want the 580 3gbs because you'll choke out the Vram.

And there was //NO// second revision...It says rev 2 because the production line changed. 1 card, 1 overall production, 2 different production lines...Nothing changed, limited release.

If you need any information on these cards, LMK...

thanks for chiming in

I think imma just go ahead and upgrade the psu and factor that outta the equation. I just wanted to get some feedback from people that tried both sides of the fence. Im not trying to start a brand war here, just trying to see whats going on.

Consider its intended use would be vision surround/eyefinity or playing at 2650x1600/1440. Which option would you pick?

a. 580 3gb sli ( $1000-1100 )
b. 6990 ( $700, or maybe $1000 if I add another 6970 or heck maybe another 6990 later down the road )
c. just keep the 590

I'm going to go ahead and get a new psu, anyone know a decent deal on a 1000w+ psu? Or just pony up the cash for an AX1200. I have a 6990 enroute to me right now, so I guess imma try it out for a while.
