Everyone just needs to experiment and find out what works best for them which is why ive realised that overclocking with a fixed voltage is best until you find the voltage you need - then use offset.

For sure, fixed is the best way to go until you've got your optimum settings. I think experimenting with offset took longer than finding optimum settings with fixed.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226274 - I know its not listed on the site as compatible. but would it still work?
or these

Which would be better?

I like the Muskin a lot! I got these and they easily OC to 2133 without having to change voltage or timing. Plus the heat sink fins make for great wire management. biggrin.gif

yeh for sure. it can be tricky tuning LLC and offset voltage!

It's sure worth it though when ya get it figured out. I think default the VCore is 1.25 @ 3.4 GHz. I've got mine down to 1.00, not bad for 4.6 GHz. Who really knows how much that will extend the life of a Sandy Bridge processor, I guess it's just piece of mind thinking if you drop it so much lower at idle it makes up for how much we push it on a load.

oh i see. i did misunderstand! i thought you meant 1.00v at 4.6ghz lol! 1.36v sounds fairly normal for 4.6Ghz but i guess the 1.00v is pretty good for idle smile.gif

I've been looking at the Extreme4 Gen3 and Fatal1ty motherboards, and besides the red colours and extra logos, I can't see any features that is worth the extra $70 in the Fatal1ty board. Is this really the case or is there something beside the colours I can justify the cost on?
