What temperature monitor software are you using?

Hi guys,

I have ASRock Z68 Fatal1ty Professional Gen3 for some time now and I finally got 2600k D2 rev. (6months old) and I'am not sure if I just got seriously bad cpu or this mobo is so bad with OC because to get 4.9Ghz Stable in all tests I need 1.488v (1.485 in bios with LLC2)

420 (Highest rocksolid OC I was able to do)

As for bios I got latest version, I belive everything is setup fine , C states disabled , temperature underclocking disabled practically everything disabled except from Virtualization and HT.

Also I found that latest bios is "slow" in OC Tweaker section (it takes about 1.5s move to next row/bios settings) but other sections are fine.

Any ideas whats wrong here ? I think I saw even somebody with 5Ghz@1.36v ... I can't get 5Ghz stable even on 1.51v it's crashing prime blend with 90% of ram in 10mins and I am not willing to go further also temps arent looking nice with these volts ofc smile.gif

Thx, for any help in advance wink.gif

For anyone that bought their Asrock Z68 from Newegg Open Box, how much did you pay?

Seeing if it would be worthwhile to wait for the extreme3 to come back on open box.

With getting good CPUs its a hit or miss, it will depend on the binning so not all of them will OC the same. Most i5/i7s do OC 4.5 around 1.3v~ and will need more than 1.4v to hit 5+Ghz so if you saw someone with a 5GHz@1.36v then it must be a golden chip. The closer to the middle of the wafer usually gets better results, thats why many ocer/benchmarkers/hwbot they will check if a certain CPU can boot at certain speeds, most boot x48 fine, some cant even boot to x50 and there'll be people who get lucky with x56-58 etc... and those start to sell for a lot. Now as for regular users we want to get the lowest voltage for the highest oc we can get. I think at 4.8+ i will need to start doing 1.4v but atm I don't need all that speed so I stick with 4.5-4.6Ghz with 1.32-1.33v. So basically saying 4.5, 4.6~ those are the common OC that most people do with relatively decent voltages. Any more like 4.8, 4.9, 5.0 they will need more voltage and if the voltage required is really high most people just go back to lower speeds for better temps.

I've seen a few Open Box E3 Gen3's and they don't normally hit even below 100. Not worth it IMO.

That's normal. Mine is at 46C right now, under full load for the last 8 hours @ 4.8Ghz. Others have asked about it as well and almost everyone I've seen that has the board runs between 40-50C.

Really? This kills me. People whining about ONLY getting a 140% overclock. Your voltage is 1.488. Your chip is an average 2500k. Come see us again when you kill it in less then a month pushing that kind of voltage.thumb.gif

I saw many statements that 1.45 is fine for 24/7 and that 1.51 is absolute max . Thats why I ended up at 1.488, but I saw lot of ppl getting 5Ghz on much lower volts so I am just curious if this cpu is already degraded (I bought it used - 6months old) or if its just normal.

Also before this one I was running 2600k D1 rev. 4.7Ghz@1.45v absolutely without problems for 4months so I don't think that 1.488 will break this chip in months or so tbh.

Btw for cooling I am using NH-D14 w/ MX-4 and case with extreme airflow.

edit:
Here is it what I am talking about, your sig:

Intel Core I-7 2600k @ 4.8Ghz 1.360v - What the ... ? (If this is stable than there has to be something wrong with my 2600k cos I need something like 1.45-6 for 4.8Ghz to be stable)

Not every chip will be able to do the same volts at a certain speed. Some chips will be better, some will be worse. Take a look at the Sandy Bridge stable club to get a good look at other voltages at your frequency. thumb.gif
