Would you recommend to upgrade BIOS to the latest (non BETA) v1.20 cos main-board came with v1.10? also do you recommend instant flash over floppy upgrade?
cheers.

I would do instant flash to the latest stable since the beta UEFI has been touchy so yeah you made a good choice there ^_^. Also double check to see if 1.30 is available because it is available for mine

I actually didn't have this issue with just the beta I had it while on 1.30 UEFI as well but it still runs exactly like it should even after the 30 days are used up.

I'm definitely showing my "Old School" ways/age ... BUT Why would you flash a bios if you have no problems to begin with? especially with a brand new board! It seems flashing a bios these days is as common as swapping ram sticks ... but in reality it's a major reconfiguration of the most important part of any machine and shouldn't be looked at so CAUSUALLY ...

UNLESS you have a backup "Bios Chip" on hand, something I think most people overlook these days rolleyes.gif It's kind of like the old school days of unregulated Skydiving, some guys had a reserve shoot, some didn't, you know the rest of the story? redface.gif

Why would the question even come up If you read the release notes of the 1.10 vs 1.20 bios' and the applicable changes IF ANY for your particular setup? What if you're New, brilliantly conceived/expensive hand picked components don't boot or perform as expected? Possibly because of a "gacked" bios, that worked fine in the 1st place? ... How do you "honestly" explain to ASRock your problem(s)/predicament?

when I'm building new machine I like to flash to newest stable BIOS so I don't need to do it later on.
I flashed BIOS-es hundreds of times without a problem. regarding that famous line "We don't recommend users to...", I think they put that in because of inexperienced users cos people tend to do stupid things and they don't investigate before doing. I'm experienced in this and regardless I went and checked (for the 100th time) how to flash :-).

BTW mouse is not working properly in v1.20. vertical motion is reversed LOL.

cheers.

A friend of mine is getting a Z68M/USB3. He is also going to pick up a i5-3570k from Micro Center. In order for this motherboard to support an IB processor he needs to update his BIOS. Will the motherboard POST with an IB processor so he can update his BIOS? I assume it would POST... it seems kind of lame that it wouldn't. But I figure I would ask. Thanks in advance. thumb.gif

Ah so he's not longer "getting" the motherboard but he already "has" the motherboard? In that case then I would attempt to POST with the processor first and then jump directly to the instant flash with F11 I believe it is and the UEFI update on a rear USB port. Failing that then try it again without the proc but I doubt that will work since I believe only Asus has their USB Bios flashback tech. and at which point I'd be at a complete loss.

marty

Removing the battery won't hurt anything other than loosing your current date and time.

That is what you would do if it went dead anyway. The battery can be a bugger on some boards to remove.

I replaced a battery on a Dell pc a few months ago that wouldn't boot because of the dead battery. I replaced the battery and booted the pc right up.

You may lose your OC settings so I would save them out to a file first. I'm not sure with these newer BIOS's.

It would be worth a try to see if the USB controller will start working again.

Let me know if you try it and the results.
