They'd have to put a SB in first, then get to the BIOS, flash to 2.10, remove SB and install IB? Seems like a hassle.

Ok, that's pretty cool then. So really no need to update my Z68 Fatal1ty Pro Gen 3, as it can use IB, RAM up to 2800MHz, and PCI 3.0.
Has anyone tried faster RAM than 2133 on a Z68 with IB (either 2400-2666, or by overclocking?)

Yea, that's my dilemma. The deal was so good at the time when I bought the Z68 Ext.4 Gen3 (Amazon $126.00 no tax, free shipping) that I didn't even think of this problem. Just kept it new and unopened waiting for Ivy. No sense in spending money on a sandy chip just to flash the Bios, and then have to sell the chip used. Guess I'll just sell the Z68 and get a Z77 Extreme6 for $160 on Newegg.

Thanks anyways for your help guys. thumb.gif

Or buy the least expensive 1155 CPU off eBay, flash the BIOS with it, the install your IB CPU and resell the cheap one.

Some retailers will carry the motherboards with the latest BIOS already, mine came with P1.30 when that was the latest but usually if the CPU is not officially supported on the BIOS it will give you a CPU Error Code and some can actually boot, it just wont display the proper information or not use the correct settings etc... There are cases where they let you boot and update. I know newer motherboards such as the Z77 series lets you do an internet flash via BIOS, dont know how reliable those are but they should also theoretically work.

If you're going from the 1.xx to 2.xx BIOS yes it will change the look.

I had to do that yesterday for my ASRock z68 Extreme3 ... Luckly I was able to borrow my brothers i5-2500k to flash the bios and now it works great with my i5-3570k... before updating the bios I was not able to boot and nothing would show up...

Does anyone use the Intel Rapid Start?
I have the Z68 Fatal1ty Pro Gen 3 and 2600k.
After looking at the PDF, I don't see what the difference is between the Intel Rapid Start and just using the standard Win 7 Sleep Hibernate mode?
http://www.asrock.com/support/note/IntelRapidStart.pdf

I first enabled the Intel Rapid Start in the BIOS.
Then installed the Intel Rapid Start Utility ver:1.0.5 and followed the directions to make a hidden 8GB partition, restarted.
Next went to install the Intel Rapid Start driver ver:1.0.0.1014 but it gives me an error.

dear gurus,

i installed P2.10 bios earlier as well as the other necessary drivers in my z68 e4g3. this is in anticipation of a proc upgrade from 2500k to 3570K.

so after the bios upgrade, i installed the vga driver in the asrock beta page as well as the Intel ME drivers (8.0.2.1410).

Problem is i get an error saying The setup failed to start one or more application processes and now i get an exclamation point in one of my devices in device manager.

i guess i should hold off that 3570k for the meantime while this is unresolved?
