Maybe update ASRock with your findings... they may be able to help you out.

The only thing i did differently was connect the cards in the PCI slots 2 and 5 (contrary to 1 and 4 as the Motherboard manual suggests) and finally i can taste some SLI action !!!!
Thanks for the support fellas!!!

FANTASTIC! .... I thought we tried 1&5 previously? ... No matter ENJOY! ... and when you feel bold again maybe try the custom bios from ASRock and see if 1&4 will work and maybe throw in an old 460 (or whatever?) as a 3rd physics card just to test more slot combinations? Who knows maybe you'll want to Tri or Quad SLI someday thumb.gif

PS: Great day all around ... after days of fiddling with Fallout 3, which has been a real bugger to try and get it to run on a high-end quad-core(+) with Win7-64bit ... finally got it running perfectly, came down to the correct "Codecs" ... K-Lite Codec Pack 8.8.5 & K-Lite Codec Pack (64-bit) 6.3.0 ... for any frustrated guys you know out there ... and believe me there are many!

Yes i know, thanks! And i did not tried 1 and 5 i just tried 1 and 4 (as the manual implies) and because i did not had a 120mm SLI connector, the one i had was a 70mm one and i had to buy the 120mm today.
But guess what!!!
As i prepared for some kick*ss Skyrim game i found out that even thou my computer does detect the cards both in the device manager and the Nvidia Control Panel i found out that the SLI option DOES NOT appear in the Nvidia Control Panel...
Any ideas why this is happening? I just sorted a problem and find a new one (Dayum!)

I read today that some guys where having conflicts with a Realtek Lan driver (that was causing that the Nvidia Control panel did no showed them the SLI option) but i found out that the ASROCK motherboard uses Broadcom drivers in the network, not Realtek.

Any other ideas to fix this?

Of course! I will give you guys the follow up as soon as i receive the BIOS and you can count on having a copy as soon as i have it!

By the way bro, the Slot 4 DID worked since i tried connecting one GTX 680 with another 540 video card (in the First and Fourth slots) and it picked it up just fine (it even gave me the option of setting it as the Physx card)

So, i think it is really a BIOS problem. Today im emailing ASROCK to tell ´em that the manual SHOULD be corrected, unless there is anyone here that is running the GTX 680 in SLI mode in slots first and fourth (if so, please PM me!)

Hey TomcatV, BTW, which one have you guys discussed is the BEST video card right now for Physx (i mean Bang for the Buck)?

Im in fact planning on doing TriSLI soon, im just eyeing that gorgeous AX1200i that the Corsair guys just got out of the over (it has dynamic power control, its super efficient and has extra overpower protections) the only issue is the price ($350 borders in the insane territory)

please tell me your toughts on the Physx...

To be honest Independant Phys-X is going the way of the dinosaur, except Batman and a few other titles ... 2 x 680's in SLI will handle it just fine alone.
But for novelty/fun sakes you can't beat a 460 ($80-$90 ebay) or a 550TI .... In the past I used 8800GTS --> 9800GTX+-->450GTS-->460GTX.

Corsair AX1200, one of the absolute best! $350 is a lot but so is peace of mind when pushing components to their limits ... or troubleshooting! rolleyes.gif
Also remember Power requirements are signifigantly lowering as tech progresses ...

Noctua have made a name for themselves really based on their CFM/rpm/dB levels. But over the years, many others bow quote similar specs.
Personally, I am willing to sacrifice alittle noise to save some money.
It could very well be different boards, but I doubt it would be 3 pin over 4 pin. Before I swapped it, my CM fan (4 pin) would ramp up within a second after making changes. The same applies to my new fan (3 pin). The other thing to consider is the software monitoring... while I could physically hear the fan speed change, it could sometimes take up to 5 seconds to get the rpm figure on the screen.
One place to start would be the CPU target temp and lower it so that the fan speeds up sooner. If however, you are manually setting the fan speed but do not hear/see an immediate response on application, then that would concern me.

Well I got my answer from Asrock. Like you I didn't have this issue with other boards and 3 pin fans. Would have been nice if it were in the manual. Maybe it was, but I didn't see it.

From Asrock: "The CPU fan speed control requires 4 pins fan connector in order to work properly."

If we used the same board, I would call BS on this. But seeing as you have the Fatality, there could be a difference, which sucks!!!
Based on my Ext4Gen3, both cpu headers (4pin and 3pin) work with both manual and temperature regulation control.
I was able to set my target fan speed on 1 and my temperature target at 45DegC.
Ran Prime95 for a few minutes and once the cpu hit 45DegC, then fan started ramping up.
Fan RPM range was 700rpm to about 3100rpm.

You have to remember that Temperature Target is where you want the fan to START ramping. Not a ceiling level you want the cpu to stay at.
That's why I asked earlier to lower the Temp Target. (you probably knew this right). I had a bit of confusion the first time I used the BIOS.
I've even seen on youtube, guys who have the Z68 Fatality ProG3, manually adjusting the cpu_2 fan, even going as far as setting a temperature target.
Why would they be doing that if it wasn't able to be adjusted?

I just don't understand how two boards same manufacturer, same chipset, same sandybridge architecture won't allow you thermal regulation on the 3 pin cpu header.

Maybe someone on the official Fatality thread can simply say yes/no.. as I am just not buying it from Asrock atm.
