Yea that sucks ... I pleaded as loud as i could earlier in this thread about flashing bios' that worked fine for Sandy Bridge to bios' intended for Ivy Bridge with a different architecture redface.gif ... BUT here is what I'd do ... ASRock's Customer Service (HERE) is proving to be very accommodating, so I would specifically list my problems/conflicts and ask them for a tweaked/custom bios.

AND/OR, even Better ... ask them for a new bios chip with the 1.70 bios (or earlier) that was optimized for Sandy Bridge so you can get back to where you started, as ASRock clearly states you can't flash backwards from the Ivy Bridge 2.05 bios mad.gif

AWESOME! I was pretty optimistic that it would work for you ... there were many more fixes in that bios for Win8 than was resonable to list in the abbreviated release notes, which is usually always the case thumb.gif

If so how? Cause I can't figure it out.
Edit: I figured it out. Damn they sure like to hide it.

Please tell us how.

I installed the 2.20 BIOS on an Asrock Fatal1ty Professional-Gen3 and it does not boot from HDD.
It boots from DVD (IDE) installs windows 7 then it's in an infinite bootloop. Bios spash screen appears over and over. I formatted the HDD, fresh install.

I have a Sata 2 HDD in a Black Sata 2 port (port3) connected. The HDD should work properly.

In UEFI: Sata controller enabled, IDE Mode, S.M.A.R.T. activated, Sata 3 mode IDE. ASmedia Sata 3 bootable NO. I tried with older BIOS 1.10/1.3 i don't remember and it worked with IDE mode and default. Windows booted, worked.

I tried AHCI mode.

What to do next.?
A big thanks in advance.

Hi, did you get a badge from Asrock Extreme 3 Gen 3?
Guys, just to let you know that ASROCK contacted me in order to find out if the BIOS that they gave me (remember? the one that allowed me to play with my GTX 680 in SLI?) worked and i just confirmed them it did.

i have shared the BIOS file with 6 guys so far and it has a hit rate of 100% (it has worked for all of them and more than half owned GTX 670 in SLI so it works for the 670 too)

I dont know when is this functionality will be embedded in the new BIOS but i still have it available for anyone that needs it...

By the way i defected to the Gigabyte Killer Sniper 3 and it is REALLY bad*ss

I fully recommend it, it has everything you can ask for (big things: Z77 chipset, PCIe 3.0 in all PCIe ports, supports 4 way SLI and 4 way Crossfire, mSATA port for those new mSATA SSDs, comes with a PCI card that has bluetooth and wifi radio, it can work as a Router by sharing the WIFI signal, PLX chip for communicatting with the video cards when SLIing and an external eSATA and MOLEX Power bracket that comes super handy with external pumps, or watercooling units like the koolance one) and it costs $280 bucks!

I had AHCI enabled, since Windows 7 was using the AHCI drivers. If you enable AHCI in the BIOS without installing the AHCI drivers in Windows first, it will not load the OS. But that doesn't seem to be your problem.
Which BIOS version were you using before you flashed to 2.20?
It sound like a bad BIOS flash. I'd suggest flashing to 1.30 and clear the BIOS by using the jumpers on the motherboard (not the clear CMOS on the back). Make sure it can read the HDD. Download a fresh version of the 2.20 BIOS and place it on the USB thumb drive. Flash with the 2.20 BIOS. Once it finishes, have it restart the PC, and at the POST screen turn the PC off. Use the jumper pins again to clear the BIOS. Turn the system back on, and see if it will properly read the HDD. By default, the BIOS had the drives as IDE (not AHCI).

Welcome to OCN, Please list ALL your system specs. Here we go again? I suspect your not using an Ivy Bridge processor, if as you stated everything ran fine w/1.3 bios and IDE mode. Your hardware is good, so I think the "conflict" is comming from the New bios 2.20 (which now defaults to AHCI!) and your Win7 install in IDE mode. Hopefully you can still boot into windows with the older 1.3? bios/IDE mode, then convert to AHCI using THIS method. Reboot into the bios, check your basic settings (boot order/AHCI etc) ... reboot again ... then if you want to mess with the 2.20 Bios for whatever reason I can't imagine, unless your installing an Ivy Bridge processor, Quote ASRock: "Do so at your own risk" rolleyes.gif

If that doesn't work double check troubleshooting tips HERE and/or post HERE and see what Sean thinks?

EDIT: ooops didn't see Fauguy's reply above ... I don't think it was initially a bad bios flash, but if you chose to move on to the 2.20 bios those tips are important especially trying CMOS resets and rebooting to initialize the new drivers wink.gif

Thanks Denny I know someone will find that info useful and possibly the new 2.20 bios does cover it? Wish I could afford a new 6xx series SLI setup but with that idiot Chief Justice Roberts upholding Obamacare it is crushing Small Business and our economy around here! mad.gif

Make that 7 users, I tried the new bios from Asrock's site version 2.30 for the Extreme 7 gen 3 and it messed up my pci-e 4 slot causing my sli to not work. With the help of Dennybrig who sent me the 2.22A bios which I installed fix my problem with the pci-e 4 slot, a big thanks Dennybrig! I guess the version 2.30 bios on Asrock site does not have the fix that version 2.22A had, hopefully Asrock will put the fix in a new bios!

I installed a SP1 Windows and it worked. Mine was old. I changed to AHCI afterwards Thanks for the INFO. The 2.20 BIos works. Windows was the problem.
Thanks again both of you who answered.

what settings do I need to change to disable the internal thermal alarms.?
I'm not even running hot but when I get to a certain temp I hear an alarm go off.
I've been in the BIOS of course but seem to be missing something.
