I am using the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver that came with the disk, if that's what you mean.

The sata ports should have come with a sticker over them, the ones under the sticker are controlled by the Intel SATA controller and the other two are controlled by the Marvell SATA controller.

There are two grey colored SATA3 connections and 4 black SATA2. I have my OS SSD on sata3-0, closest to the mobo.

I grabbeed the Extreme3 Gen3 Manual from ASRock's website and it looks like both of those ports are Intel sata ports since the Marvell controller isnt' needed unless adding the extra 2 SATA3.
I'd try a BIOS update regardless but if you've narrowed it down to the motherboard end having issues then I'd make the conclusion that that particular SATA port is busted, there are several things you could do to maybe try and remedy it but one of them is RMA'ing it and we've already ruled that out for you. One thing that I would check out just as a double check, use the same cable and drive that doesn't work in that particular sata port in the SATA2 port: check the speed benchmarks and then try it in the working SATA3 port with the SSD inside of another port and then benchmark. Perhaps it may turn out that you won't see a speed boost regardless of where you plug it in and perhaps save a bit of headache?

Thanks for the response but I think we've narrowed it down to the fact that if you have use the rear eSATA for an external driver, which I do, it disables SATA3_1. (- 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors, ...(SATA3_1 connector is shared with eSATA3 port).

I did not know this, hand not read the manual to that detail, or know that this was even a thing. Knowing is half the battle!

Hello, I was wondering if it's possible to boot with USB 3.0 speed? I read it that it depends on the motherboard. I have an Extreme 3 Gen 3 Z68. Has anyone tried it? Is there a setting I should be aware of? Thanks!

Been using an Asrock Z68 Fatal1ty Pro Gen 3 for about 3 years now. Recently I've noticed that when I turn off the system at night (or early AM), and then turn it on again 6-8 hours later, that the time it shows in Win 7 is the exact time the system was powered down. I don't think it could be the BIOS battery, since I changed it last year, though a few weeks ago I updated the BIOS from 2.20 to the beta L2.26. But this time issues has only been going on since this past weekend after the daylight savings. Any ideas?

Same thing happened again today.
Turned the PC off at 1:40 am. Then when I turned it back on at 11am, the time shown in Windows 7 was 1:42am.
Had to again set the time.
I'd think if the BIOS battery had gone out, then it wouldn't keep any time after the PC was powered off.
Still, I can't figure out why when the PC is powered down, that the internal BIOS clock isn't keeping
proper time on its own. I'll revert back to the 2.20 BIOS, to see if maybe it is a bug in the beta L2.26 bios.

Bios batteries should last well over 5 years, but I suspect yours has gone bad, even for a second time in 3 years, very odd redface.gif But your question that the clock continues to run 2min? after shutdown could be to the capacitors holding a charge for that short time. It may be a bios problem, but I highly doubt it ... I'd bet you end up having to change the battery ... again, which unfortunately could be a precursor to mobo problems to come? redface.gif

Hello, quick question, do I need to install XFast or something to enable USB 3.0 or is it good to go? THanks!
