Hey WickedOut, why not write a quick short guide to the BIOS of the ASRock boards in the first post since so many people have the Gen3 boards?

It'd be a great resource since everyone is recommending these boards.

Hey guys

i've decided that i will be getting one of these boards i spent a good portion of my weekend looking at a new setup. Coming from AMD i didn't know much about Intel boards and i was initially going to go with an ASUS P8Z68-V Gen3 Motherboard, but after reading reviews, going through this forum i made my choice.

Im just waiting to get a final figure from my friend (he works at a computer store so discounts ahoy!)

ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Motherboard
Intel Core i5 2500K
Corsair Vengeance CML8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Intel 320 Series 80GB SSD
Corsair Carbide 400R Black Mid-Tower Case

$760 Total before my discount.
If i can save $100 it would be perfect!

EDIT:
Total with discount is $640 thumb.gif and i might get a free upgrade from Intel 320 Series 80GB SSD to a Crucial M4 SSD 128GB depending on stock levels

The following will be taken from my Sig Rig

Corsair H50
Western Digital 150G Raptor - (Will Be Used For Games)
Samsung SP3 1TB - (Will Be Used For Backups & MP3s and Misc..)
Gigabyte 560GTX Ti OC (I Will Put My Spare GTX 280 into The Sig Rig)
Most of the fans in the Sig Rig will come over aswell.

So that about covers it.

What do you guys think of my setup, Im hoping to get to 4.8GHz - 5GHz. I'll be only using this really for Gaming & Internet surfing.

EDIT: New system arrives Thursday biggrin.gif cant wait to build and game

Hey all,

Just upgraded to a extreme3 gen3 and 2500k after my old PSU Blew and took My Maximus Formula and Q6600 with it. Board seems well made for its price and I do like the UEFI system agent, However I am finding that my setup is extremely unstable from the get go.

Right from the first power on I have had BSOD after BSOD. Most seem to be "IRQ_LESSL_OR_NOT_EQUAL_TO: I am now having success as I write this by removing one of my 8800gt cards. Have there been many other owners that have had problems with dual video Cards and if so what voltages ned to be increased to bring stability?

I should also note that There was no SLI option when having 2 cards in and 2 different sets of drrivers. 285.38 and 266.58 (which I am using now)

Thanks

Has anyone else here solved the Code 45 problem besides hawaiiboy? Here's my relevant parts:

Extreme3 Gen3
i7 2700k
16GB of G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 4GB
Cooler Master 212+

My system was up and running fine for about a week, and then I got some new thermal paste in the mail that I wanted to try, so I reseated the CPU and everything, ever since then, the two DIMMs closest to the CPU do not work anymore and I get a Dr. Debug code 45 whenever RAM is plugged into them (no POST).

The two B-slots work, but this means 8GB of memory max and single channel. I've opened a ticket with Asrock to RMA, but would love to not have to mail the board in.

I tried removing the 212+ like hawaiiboy did to no avail, same issues with stock cooler. I've also reseated the CPU a few times now, along with trying some Kingston memory I had in another system. Also running new BIOS 1.30, was running 1.20 when the issue started.

Any help would be awesome.

Can I join? Recently build a new gamer with the Extreme 7 Gen 3. This board has been rock solid and a great upgrade over my EVGA 680i that is now my media box.

I did not reformat, and have only used the drivers for the board that came off the disk. With the exception of Nvidia drivers which I have both the newest and the recomended stable drivers. I have very slow internet and am downloading and installing new drivers as we speak.

I would like to try with out Reformatting if possible. I know its the best bet but I dont have the time to put into a backup and reformat right now.

I would also not that I have just completed 7 hours of prime blend + downloading from steam. No BSOD Yet. With only one 8800gt in . My bet is that is where the problem is.

2 card setups need more voltage on the Northbridge..... Which voltage in the uefi is the NB??

Maybe not a full guide, but just the basics for Sandy Bridge overclocking and recommended settings specific to ASRock mobos. I noticed someone using 1.7v on PLL voltage, so I did that too (lowering it from the 1.8v stock PLL voltage) before I realized the SB architecture prefers lower PLL voltage for stability.
