For moderate overclocking I'd say no, but it depends on $$$ and how well ventilated your case is, which your Phantom looks pretty good. I owned a "modded/push/pull" H50 for awhile and wished I never got rid of it, while it didn't perform like my Noctua it sure was alot more convienient. Here's a pretty good article comparing all the new H series Corsairs with a top of the line air cooler (Silver Arrow).

Note: There are improvements to the H60, the H50's replacement, mainly the heatblock which allows it to perform slightly better than the H50.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5054/corsair-hydro-series-h60-h80-and-h100-reviewed/7

I chose the H100 over the H80 mostly because of noise/performance (+ only $10 difference) and I don't mind getting out my "Dremmel" if I have to "help" it fit smile.gif

I chose the H100 over the Phantek PH-14 (slightly better Noctua nock-off) mainly because I didn't like the idea of hanging 1250g, almost 3lbs. on what appears to me to be a thinner/flimsier? MB PCB than I've ever had in the past, maybe that's why it runs so cool tongue.gif ... maybe that's how a good overclocking/high feature board cost only $150! ...
AND it is so much easier to work with considering the ever "SHRINKING" clearances around the newer CPU sockets, ram, etc :O

Someone should make a chart of what high-end air coolers fit with ASR board's heatsinks, while still clearing the most popular high profile ram (Corsair/GSkill) ... another reason I went with the Corsair cooler, I know it will fit and contiue to fit in the future!

Thanks for the great reply! My system is close to a year old, it's turned into another project because I swapped motherboards from a different brand. Since I had to go back to a single fan I'm not too happy with mid 30°s at idle. I know it's not bad, but I'm anal. The H70's were just coming out when I got the H50 so my choices were limited. Probably not a big deal, I just keep seeing people talking about running idle temps in the 20's. Granted room temp (75-77) is a bit higher here than it would be living in a colder climate. If I had the AC set to run in the 60's my electric bill would be over $400. Not to mention I don't think it could even get that cold in the summer if I wanted it to, lol. The ground/floor is warmer too so that might be a factor. I do know if I run some benchmarks at 4.8GHz it doesn't take much to hit 90° in a couple of minutes, at least using InterBurn. I doubt I'll ever do anything besides benchmarking that would cause it to even get close to those temps though. I agree with you about the Corsairs though, they are very convenient and for the most part are easily installed and fit quite nicely. Some air coolers sure do look sharp but they take up way too much space.

I don't know how most feel but, putting some dollar's into a rig then covering it all up with a BIG clunky cooler makes no sense to me. Besides, your not going to see much of a difference between 4.8ghz and 5ghz unless your benching.

I agree with you. It seems once you get beyond mid 4's VCore almost needs to be increased exponentially. I was able to get a 5.0 setup stable just to benchmark and to say that I could. Although, I can't say it was 100% stable because at that point the temps were a problem and couldn't run an extended benchmark. With that said, going back to what you mentioned, I may just go with a real conservative 4.6 setup so I can knock a bunch off my VCore. I know I can hit 5.0 and it's just cooling that's holding me back. At this point why keep it so high when the difference is minimal.

One thing I have noticed is the ASRock boards don't run the 2600K at 3.8GHz default like the MIVE does. Not a gripe, just an observation. Not like any of us planned to keep it at 3.4 or 3.8 anyways, lol.

Boot time with this board is considerably faster than the MIVE. Even when you change BIOS to skip the initial boot screen with the MIVE.

Just an FYI - did some measuring with my DMM tonight. Wanted to see how accurate CPU z was reporting the voltage.
1.400 in cpu z was 1.424 with the DMM
1.416 in cpu z was 1.451 with the DMM
You can see my voltage read point in the pic below.

I guess I'll just stick with 1.10 then. Seems to be working great for me! No mouse issues to report either while being in the BIOS!

Excellent setup! I tried your settings and everything ran great. Only difference is I needed to bump offset .01 to get IntelBurn stable with high setting. Standard it went fine with your offset. I've got a good 4.8 GHz setup as well but VCore needs to be set almost .07 higher to keep it that way. Not sure if that's worth the extra .2 GHz. I have spread spectrum and speedstep enabled as well so maybe with those turned off I could get away with a lower VCore.

A cool feature that I didnt realize existed on these boards is C.C.O, which means I kinda wasted 10 dollars on a Xigmatek bracket kit for 1155, because I could have used my LGA 775 cooler as is on this board. No biggie though.
Im gonna have to thumb through this thread and see what you guys have said about this board, and maybe get an idea of what settings I need to tweak and what not.
Cheers everyone!

I'm getting my Extreme 3 Gen 3 tomorrow as well. Can't wait! Been waiting since friday!

I've got a good 4.8 GHz setup as well but VCore needs to be set almost .07 higher to keep it that way. Not sure if that's worth the extra .2 GHz. I have spread spectrum and speedstep enabled as well so maybe with those turned off I could get away with a lower VCore.

Nice, I'm doing some testing now with offset -0.005v and CPU PLL @ 1.627v. 3 hrs Prime95 small FFT's good going to change to blend for the rest of the nite.

I failed 3 hrs in with blend & CPU PLL @ 1.568v
