Are they saying that when installing 2 sticks of ram, to use A2 and B2 first. Then if you add another 2 sticks of RAM, to then use the A1 and B1. The "OR" of NOTE 6 has me confused. Here is a link to the memory support list. The notes are at the top:

I think they mean "And" I noticed that the Extreme3 Manual says "And", its probably a typo.

turned the machine on, set up the bios, and immediately got a debug code of 45, which is memory. My ram is intalled in slots 1 and 3.
I took out the stick in slot 3 and the computer finally allowed me to install windows. So, I put the stick I had in slot 3 in slot 1 and the stick from slot 1 in slot 3 and all was well. Ran the windows experience assessment, and RAM showed as a 7.9 (strange if the sticks are bad?)
I noticed my system was a bit sluggish here and there, and every once in a while on restart, the computer would hang on the windows screen, or take a real long time to shutdown and restart (would hang on the shutting down screen)
Now, the machine wont even boot into windows..I have nogui boot enabled, and all i get is a black screen with a rainbow line at the top of the screen (where you would normally see the green dashes when noguiboot is enabled)
Finally, I decided to run memtest to see if the sticks are bad, and this is what I see:
450
safe to say the stick(s) are bad?

Part of your problem is you are using too old of a version of memtest. version 4.20 added support for sandy bridge. I had the same problem with my older version.

All ready?????? I got to PM u about something soon.

Ahhh Yes ... in general you are right, but in my case (pun intended) it was all about positve pressure! I had a high cfm fan modded into the right side panel to cool the backside of the cpu/mobo, been doing that for years. Several of us at the old DFI-Street site came up with that and it still works amazingly well. So i have tried the PSU flipped both ways and found very slightly better temps with the fan up ... and definately noticed more heat flow out the back of the PSU ... I'm going to mod the bottom intake and see if I can't get better airflow through the PSU ... AND avoid the enevitable dropping of a screw :O through that fan guard someday tongue.gif

I thought you guys were going to hammer me on the sloppy wiring LoL ... I gave up after awhile cause I had to pull that board so many times because of the V10 and ram access etc .... can't wait for the H100 smile.gif 5days now dang ...

Was too late on this one, glad your up and runnin! It is almost always ram (especially 16GB for 1st boot?) or a board "short" ... Amazes me how many boards get RMA'd when it's not neccessary frown.gif
But that is why there are so many great "Open Box" motherboard deals at Newegg! Unfortunately Newegg has caught on in the last 6 mos and the deals aren;t what they use to be frown.gif

They should all be straight up! I have heard of bent pins from the factory too, even with the protective cover firmly attached! It is a tedious process straighting socket pins and even now more tedious since they are no longer on the chip! But I'd rather do that drill than RMA especially with ASR?

Dang that is a fine looking rig! And I bet that (rare) white PSU looks even better in person smile.gif ... Good luck with the AMD GPU and their drivers at least in the initial release anyway. In the past I use to put up with ATi's driver merry go round because I thought they had a slightly superior image/picture, but I think Green team closed that gap a couple years back ... I'm still jealeous, I'd love to play around with that gpu! smile.gif

Actually to me it sounds like an incomplete statement. "Note6: It is recommended to install memory module in DDR3_A2 OR DDR3_B2 slot first!" it should probably end off with something like "upon first boot."

A lot of older socket boards would only initially boot with 1 stick of RAM installed. DFI 939 boards in particular have an issue with this. When first booting, it WILL NOT boot up with all RAM sticks installed no matter what you do.

I've posted a couple times but Havnt really got any answers. I have read a couple guides but it doesn't feel like they are totally accurate for our boards. My goal is 4.5ghz on minimum voltage. I don't care to go any higher. Just 4.5 with low temps. So my question is what setting in the bios do I need to change. I'm looking for like a template for all the power saving settings and such(settings other than v-core & multi). Also I am having a hard time understanding the offset voltage vs the fixed voltage. I read some where that sandy bridge likes lower pll voltage than stock? As well as a level 1 llc for a 4.5 ghz oc.

Sorry for all the questions. It would just be nice to get answers from fellow members with asrock boards

Thanks a lot guys. Cheers
