6970 / 570 GTX / 560 Ti 2GB / 580 GTX - Page 3

I had a 285 GTX and upgraded to two reference 6970s. The 285 was retardedly loud, I tried a 560 Ti 2GB and was a bit dissipointed in performance. Driver haven't been a big deal at all, though it would effect heaven scores some, as my 6970s scored lower then 6950s.

Grab the gtx580 if your only playing on single monitor , otherwise get the 6970 its only 5-10% slower than a gtx580 and thats made up for once its overclocked ..

Im going to have to say that amd's drivers are very good at the moment , im sorry .. the people who are saying "amd's drivers suck" must either be an nvidia fanboy or he just really has issues installing drivers .. Or its a user fault , faulty hardware .. but its blamed on drivers . Nvidias drivers aren't any better really .

I have had my 6970 for almost a year now and im sorry to say , i have never came across any driver related issues .. from 10.9 to now 11.9 i have only ever had a great experience with my 6970 please do not listen to this rubbish .

If you know your shiz about pc's , you wont face any driver related issues .. easily fixable with a reinstall or a wipe with driversweeper .. If it comes down to that , never has for me .

Iv played every game you can think of .. BF3 beta , Crysis 1 , Crysis 2 , Driver SF , f1 2011 , Dirt 3 , Fifa12 , Mafia II , Homefront , Deadspace 2 , Call of jaurez the cartel and the list goes on ...

They all work without a problem .

I think the 6970 is your best bet ..2GB vram and multi monitor gaming off 1 card ..

I can play f1 2011 in DX11 @ 6080x1080 all high settings and 8xAA with a minimum of 60fps .. It does really well for a single card in eyefinity i was really suprised . Most other games run fine with 60fps in eyefinity with an exception of a few like crysis 2 and BF3 beta .. i could only run crysis 2 smooth @ 4800x1080 high settings in dx9 ... Still looks great though , amazing experience .

at 1080p i can max anything , except BF3 beta which i got 35-55Fps ultra and 4xAA 16xAF

Xristo the driver issues are very real. Not all people get them, but they do exist. I am pretty good with my computer, and have had good experience with driver problems in the past, so I don't consider myself a newbie of this kind of thing.

Xristo have you tried playing GTA 4 with vsync disabled to see if you get stuttering? I have had this since the earliest driver available for the 6870. Older ATI cards have less of a problem, since they can roll back further before the stuttering was introduced. BC2 also seems to have one thing fixed and another broken with each driver release for a number of people. Please don't presume that because you don't get any issues they don't exist or are simply down to user error.

Also, what about heat and noise from the 6970? Quite a few people say they bothersome with the reference design.

Thanks Steadly2004 for the Crysis 2 bench. The performance drops to the single figures in fps with that make me wonder about VRAM being a limitation there for the 570 though.

My card is loud as its reference , hot ? not really . Im always under 70c even after an hour of bf3 ..

avg temps for my card are 62 - 70c @ 70% fan , overclocked to 930/1430

On default clocks 880/1375 i just use auto fan , not loud at all really i set it to max out at 60% and it stays under 70c so im happy .

Sorry i dont have gtaIV , that game is crappy honestly it wasnt coded nor optimzed very well .. we all know that the game prefers nvidia cards .. not sure , i dont play it so i dont really care tbh .

youll probably find a gtx460 will perform better than a 6970 in gtaIV , for whatever reason i dunno .. thats how it is . Less games being made so poorly optimized these days though , amd is a big part of the game now manufacturing some incredible cards in the last few years and now most dev companys want in on optimaztion for amd's drivers , since you know alot of people now use amd cards unlike many years ago .

all the new titles and upcoming ones in 2012 will work like a charm on a 6970 .. or 2

I'm not sure about the FPS dropping, I think that's when the game first loads, it doesn't do that during the bench, at least not as far as I can tell, it is in single digits at the very first start, like the first second.

its either a 1.5gb 580 or a 2GB 6970 , do not get a 1gb card .. that is silly

most games now use more than 1gb of vram , or they will soon enough .

gtx580 is the faster card , 6970 is better bang for $$ and if you can overclock it to 950 core which should be achievable on stock voltage aslong as you get a good card .. itll be just about on par with a 580 .. very marginal differnece

Everybody gets them. Not everybody notices. I like to walk around LANs and point out the flaws in their pride and joy of a videocard. It's my way of getting back at the "mines fine, learn how to install drivers n00b!" forumites.

I spent 3 hellish days with the "noisy" 6870. Honestly? I preferred even the "old" 460 1GB. Quieter, faster oced vs oced, less line crawling/flickering, and I didn't have to suffer with that VD, CCC. Do I really need a separate page for each 3D feature?! Yup...still pissy about it.

Buddy of mine got a Matrix 580, runs @ 1Ghz. I haven't seen it yet, but he seems happy. Crazy fools prolly running at 100% fan tho.

What about a pair of 560 Ti 2GBs?

SLI 560 Ti would be way over budget, and thinking about it more, one 560 Ti 2GB now and another later wouldn't be sufficient for the performance I am looking for right now.

I'm starting to feel the GTX 580 is too much for what it is unless I was to go for the 3GB one and use extremely high resolutions, which I do not. The 570 GTX is making more sense for me in 1920x1080 now.

I think it is going to be between these:

MSI GeForce GTX 570 Twin Frozr III Power Edition/OC 770Mhz

and

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 570 Overclocked 780Mhz

Both look excellent but what I want is something that is quiet and runs cool under load and I can't decide which of these will do the job. The Gigabyte has 3 fans so I'm guessing that will run cooler, but does it run quieter than the MSI Twin Frozr which has 2 fans?
