ASUS P8Z68-V PRO based i7 system random lockup before or after POST, ideas? - Page 2

Hey guys, I "think" (prays) that I have found the cause of this issue even though it seems so unusual.

The mouse receiver for my Logitech MX1100 seems to trigger this issue. Even after upgrading to 0801 firmware on the BIOS, I'm still seeing the same issue.

Now, this partially makes sense as the motherboard is looking for USB devices prior to POST so that devices like the mouse, keyboard and hard disks are ready for tweaking in the BIOS, but I'm not sure why this would cause the lockup just before Windows loads.

I can however, confidently say that I spent over an hour rebooting non-stop with zero issues while the receiver was disconnected and within 10 minutes of connecting it, I got 2 freezes just before Windows loaded.

I'm thinking I'll buy a PCIe -> USB card to remedy this as well as reporting it to ASUS and possibly Logitech.

Any thoughts or additional feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers

A further update for everyone.

I attempted the following tonight:
  • CMOS reset
  • Pulling out 2 sticks of ram at a time and testing with each set of sticks
  • Reseated all components on the motherboard
  • Ran the SSD through a SATA2 port instead of SATA3
  • Updated the BIOS to the newly released 0801 version
This was to no avail, the problem continued. The ONLY thing which seemed to stop the problem occurring was unplugging my Logitech MX1100 mouse controller from USB during startup, and thus, the only conclusion I can dram after weeks of troubleshooting is that the issue is related to the motherboard interacting with this controller.

My P5K-E has had 0 issues with it on the other hand and the mouse works perfectly, so it's incredibly unlikely to be a real issue with my mouse controller.

Anyway, to sum it up, I'm totally over this board. It's already packed and being returned for a Gigabyte UD4-B3 (or UD3P-B3). Thus, the P5K-E will be my first and last ASUS board, having owned many computers prior to that with Gigabyte boards and never faced such crazy issues.

The store I'm buying from always uses Gigabyte for their clients too as does my brother who runs his own business, but I based my decision on both reviews and my previous experience with the P5K-E.

I envy those who are running happily with the P8Z68-V PRO.

Any further thoughts are welcome
