Seems like Carmack is.. RAGEing at AMD and NVIDIA. lol

They just had super high expectations that RAGE will be the best game ever and it wasn't and in fact it did pretty poorly or at least got a lot of hate and now they're trying to shift the blame somewhere else. Would've expected as much. Ditch OpenGL ID. barely any support for it, and stop making crap games.

I'm one of the few people that are actually enjoying the game, I haven't had any issues luckily. The game is good "old skool" fun, which is quite refreshing considering the endless "serious" military shooters these days.

Initially it was all RAGE, then slowly I've been seeing people proud to come forth and admit their enduring love for the game. Those of us that see the light shining through the bugs are having fun.

And the patch has fixed all my problems. Ironically all the updated AMD drivers make the game completely unplayable as in 1fps until it just freezes with looping sound. I'm stuck with older 11.8's but I don't care because they work! Seems AMD isn't fixing things they are borking them even worse in some cases

The fact that OpenGL isn't properly supported is indeed the fault of AMD/Nvidia (perpetuated by Microsoft), not id. I'm all for OpenGL gaining steam though - maybe if we see a wealth of decent OpenGL titles I can finally ditch Windows for good. DirectX is about the only thing keeping me tied to this OS. That and the wealth of great hardware monitoring programs, not many of which I know of for Linux.

As for Frostbite 2, you must be joking. Hit detection and collision detection are wretched in both BC2 (from beta all the way to R11, the only time it was somewhat decent was back around R8 and even then it wasn't that good) and what I've seen in the BF3 beta. DICE tried to bite off more than they could chew with half-assed physics implementation, piss-poor netcoding, and dozens of absurd game design choices likely stemming from console support or concessions to their publisher. Battlefield 3 is almost certainly not going to be the savior of PC FPS gaming. With proper dedicated server and LAN support Modern Warfare 3 stands a much better chance of doing that, although truth be told the best chance right now likely stands with CS:GO if Valve manages to pull off the PS3/PC cross-platform play right. I'll take a solid, well-coded engine that only renders in DX9 over a buggy mess that was designed around DX10+ any day of the week. Tessellation can make a great game better, but it can't make a mediocre game great. Or even good.

The game runs fine for me, other than how ugly some textures look up close. Getting 60FPS most of the time with 4*AA every thing else is on max with v-sync off, dips to the low 50's every once in a while.

He could have made an amazing DX11 engine going beyond frostbite 2.
The most recent incarnations of OpenGL have regained, or surpassed, feature parity with DX11, and OGL is much more viable as a cross-platform API.
