This is easily one of the most enjoyable fps games I have played in a LONG time (I think the original halo was the last one). The weapons feel powerful and very well balanced. So until you guys get a chance to hose down some mutants with a combat shotgun, dont hate a great game.

Also, I blame most of the issues on AMD/Nvidia, they both knew a high profile id game was coming out using OpenGL but they chose to do nothing with the drivers until it was to late and the pc community was in a rampant bi*ch-fit like always. As far as texture pop-in, I never had issues with it but that could be because I have Rage on my ssd so I cant comment on it.

You put a 22GB game on an ssd? Interesting. I also find it interesting how this game is 22GB and just about every other game that is 6-8GB blows this one's graphics away. The textures in this game are the worst I've seen in 5+ years.

OpenGL was so far ahead of DirectX but had a series of serious setbacks and issues which caused it to fall behind in certain areas. Otherwise OpenGL has had things way before DirectX incorporated them.

Essentially MS highlighted the DirectX engine far better than OpenGL and maximized the potential by their API instead of having to code for two different (or more) graphics vendors.

There is a huge article that was posted (I think it was here) that made the case for OpenGL as being a better platform both in hardware performance, graphical detail and ease of use; but of course DirectX is what is used because of (mainly now) it's large populace audience (platforms).

works fine with crossfire. i'd check with my brother about SLI but no way in hell is he gonna buy the game to find out.

i got it for free through insiders.bethsoft.com and i still feel like they robbed me of something.

they can patch it all they want, its just not a very good game. It's a clone of fallout 3 without most of what made fallout 3 great. If this wan't an id title it would have just launched into obscurity.

Its sad to see a great developer fail so much but lets not be sentimental. id have made a substandard product and have made a complete about face on their pre-release statements regarding the PC. They have failed to take any responsibility for the problems, instead they have blamed nvidia and ati. In regards to this, what drivers did they use to play test the game? or did they not test the game at all?

If Carmack was a politician he'd be wiped out in a landslide in the next election.

believe it or not, Open GL is superior to DX11 graphically, Open GL supported tessellation and many other new features years before DX11 did, not only that its much easier to code, Microsoft just has tons of money and marketing to throw at its own API. I personally would like to see more OpenGL titles in the future, it leaves the door open to multi-platform games for win/linux/mac. the only problem is most GPU's are more geared toward Direct X due to Microsofts monopoly on the gaming industry.

Sorry to say but RAGE proves DirectX11 > OpenGL. IDC what anyone says, until a game actually proves OpenGl>DX11.

BF3 spanks Rage, maybe Doom IV will be this guy to show us what OpenGL is made of.

BF3 currently has a lot of bugs to be fixed. With DICE's history, BF could just be as buggy as Rage at launch.

What are these "lots of bugs" you speak of?

I have had only the animation glitch in the beta and thats about it, no crashes, lock ups or anything which is pretty impressive for a beta. No game can ship perfect especially a game using a new engine. Also why do you feel the need to bring bf3 in every topic? I know you say its because you are skeptical about future games, but the only game you bring up is bf3?
