[TechReport] Rage update address PC issues - Page 9

You know, I don't understand how they can do this.

First, Carmack was quoted as saying the PC release was a failure because of all the different hardware configurations possible with PC. Now, he's blaming GPU drivers...

We've been gaming on PC for 20 odd years now. This has never been a problem to this extent before?

Such a cop out.

After the patch and some minor tweaks, I've completed the game little to no issues. Not even a single crash. Before the patch, a custom config file fixed the texture popins, and after the patch it wasn't needed. The game is more than disappointingly short, and the latter part of the game feels rushed and unfinished with TONS of loose ends story-wise. Besides that, even though it's not a great looking game, the detail of the world was much appreciated, and was very fun.

Only technical issue I had that was game breaking, was after playing for awhile, it would start to lockup/get jittery. A restart of the game fixes this. Also, steam overlay not working was annoying, but since it was alt-tab friendly, I can't complain much.

edit: before the patch and on 11.9s, bad performance issues, etc. 11.10 preview 2 and the patch made the game much more playable.

Actually it's always been an issue, behind the scenes. That's why, despite the lack of licensing fees that consoles have, our games are the same price. that's why PC devs stopped giving away DLCs and started maximizing profits. That's why Bethesda can never make a game without major bugs.

Speaking of, that's why PC gamers have been beta testers for the last 10 yrs. Even Valve released a buggy Half Life 2 that had the incredibly annoying stutter bug.

Terrible graphics? Wow PC elitists these days are pretty ridiculous. I take it you're a gaming noob that hasn't played any games over the last 20 years or so, if you're complaining about RAGE then I can't imagine how you felt about great games of the past. And I'm not implying RAGE is a great game, I was actually pretty disappointed by it.

All im implying is the actual Rage textures are not on par with games current today. There have been numerous posts on this forum showing games from 2005 to have better textures. I have a been playing games since 1985 and think SNES games are the best around. Secret of Mana, A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, Super Mario World, Chrono Trigger, and so many others were such amazing games, that kind of quality has been a lost art. Too many crap 3rd party games by people looking to make a quick buck pollute the market and Rage is one of them.

Look at games from 2005-2007 and you'll see games that look better. For crap's sake, Crysis is still one of the, if not the best looking game to date, and that was 4 years ago. I think we as PC gamers have a right to gripe, when a game from 4 years ago looks better than most of what we're sold. Also, even though the texture res is bleh, the world is still very "detailed", background and immersiony objects are present and more detailed than most games to date.

I've always considered gameplay to be the most important part of any game and if it is being accompanied by the great visuals then great, if not, well not a big deal.

Truth be told, even tho Crysis have a better visuals i consider RAGE to be better looking (not to mentian having way better gameplay), simply cause i enjoy artistic/futuristic style much more than typical real world theme every single modern FPS trying to paint.

There might be HD texture pack coming sometime, if so, then the game would truly look EPIC.
