Ideal desk? (Ikea Jerker?)

Thread Starter
So in my long journey to find the perfect desk, I've only come across lots of annoying issues. I've kinda given up on the idea of an all in one desk (that I can write on at a comfortable height), since all those keyboard trays are generally not sturdy, or with a desk that I thought had a sturdy tray, had no locking mechanism, so frantic mouse (and keyboard I guess) movements would lead the tray to roll in and out.

So I thought, I'll get an el cheapo at IKEA, which is what I did, that had the locking mechanism. Only, the ones with the locking mechanism aren't sturdy, I wouldn't want to lean on it. The actual desk part was quite spacious, but that lead to my next problem, it's not ergonomic. My elbows are at too acute an angle, my forearms have to go too high. Since this was a cheap piece of _, I took it to a saw and cut it down, so my elbows can be at near right angles.

I like using this height, especially for other assorted game controllers (fightstick, IIDX controller, I think it would be good for a steering wheel as well). But now I can't do any writing on it (comfortably), and I just feel that some sort of compromise has to be made.

Is there any solution where I don't have to compromise? I'm not sure on the Jerker/Fredrick, sure it's adjustable, but then I would have to clear the table first to swap from computer ergonomics height, to writing height, and so forth. Is there a keyboard tray out there that's both sturdy AND has a locking mechanism? And out of curiosity, what to Progamers prefer? Or do they just compromise and raise their forearms to a higher desk?

make your own. thats what i did. i needed to as the ikea desk i had wouldn't support my 800D.

four solid legs wont set you back that much (found at local hardware store).go to the tip or garage sale and find a table top. problem solved.

Here's my fredrik. I have zero complaints. Pushing the keyboard up to write does not bother me, though.

I have an Ikea Jerker and I love it. The problems you describe can be solved as easily as a height adjustable chair. I find the desk a pleasure to write on while doing my uni homework. I just move the keyboard and adjust the chair height and I'm good to go.

Also, I picked up my Jerker in pristine condition from a thrift for $40. Just thought I'd mention that. Amazing price/performance
