yes, thats me. I will not pretend I know anything about PC's but I would like a good one

I have been trying the web for a week or so now trying to fathom out what Mobo I should buy, can someone suggest please?

My rig so far consisits of the following components

Haf X case, XFX HD6950 830MHZ 2GB GPU, 4GB (2x2) RipjawsX 1600Mhz RAM, Coolermaster 212 Plus CPU Cooler

I have my eyes set on a 128GB Crucial M4 SSD & a Phenom II x6 1090T CPU that Im likely to buy today along with mobo, but which mobo should I get

Firstly I have narrowed it down to a few purley based on colour & if you feel price is an issue, Ive added delivered prices that I can purchase for.

ok, the choices are.....

ASUS IV Formula @ £123.00 circa $192
Gigabyte UD5 @ £155 circa $240
ASRock Fatal1ty @ £160.00 circa $250
ASUS V Formula @ £168.00 circa $262

Not really keen on anything else as I like the simple black or black & red styling

I can appreciate that the ASUS V has more features than the IV but as Im only getting a AM3 cpu, do I really need the 990 socket now but then, if it was the features, it seems as though the ASRock wins hands down

I really dont know how to choose between these 4, will I OC, I would think so but only after using for a while to see if I actually need to

Ive looked & looked, Ive found some reviews that are good (ASUS) & some bad esp UD5 however nothing on ASRock which on paper seems the best ?

Can someone please help me, its driving me insane & my eyes burn from reading so many reviews & watching videos on youtube

My main problems is I have the feeling that if I buy the IV, I will regret it & think I should of bought the V, however, if I buy the V, I wont have enough cash left over to say upgrade to Windows 7 or buy a new mouse or keyboard etc..

This is a big step for me as for the last 5 years, Ive been hacking about on a Dell Inspiron 530, so as u can now tell, this is a massive leap of Neil Armstrong proportion

Much appreciated

Ok, well

Can I ask why you decided to pick the x6? You'd be better off getting an i5 2500k. The crucial M4 is just pure and utter win.

Would you consider going the intel route? If not then i'll just help with the AMD build.

Hi, thanks for taking your time to read & assist me. Only reason I chose AMD was firstly price & also I have an AMD GPU & I will eventually crossfire, I just thought keeping it all AMD would be nice & as I say, I like the colours, really girly I know but I just dont like blue in a mobo

oh, to add, if my colour scheme can be reached & budget still in tact, then yes, I would consider Intel

Nah,

Nowadays it doesn't really matter tbh. Also I can build you an intel machine for the same price as an AMD one. To top it all off the i5 will be better for games etc where as the x6 will only be good for programs that support all 6 cores.

I personally would go with something like

i5 2500k OEM

Gigabyte GA-Z68XP-UD4 (purely because you like the black)

and then depending on what memory you already have you might be able to use that, that's £320.19 inc VAT from scan.

Very nice chosenlord, I like the look of it. If I went i5 + Fatal1ty it would be £362 but if I go 1090T + Fatality = £295, thats a big difference, is Intel really that much better ?

I can make this nice and simple, yes, yes they are.

Have a look here.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=147

The x6 get's obliterated by the i5... Also, some of these graphs lower is better, make sure you check

Also, the UD4 gigabytes are great mid range boards, they are probably gigabytes best sellers due to cost and quality.

Holy Science!! i didn't realise it was that clear cut!

I personally have never had the opportunity to overclock an AMD CPU, but i know intel generally score better in most all tests (as proved above)

I know you'll get 4.4ghz + out of an i5, not sure if you can do the same with the x6,

Just goes to show that more cores don't mean more performance!

even the Duel Core i3-2100 scores better in Games over the x6!
