Also due to how much lighter iOS5 is, 512MB will probably be plenty for most users. Android is heavier and needs the 1GB ram.
I will never buy myself an iPhone, I dislike everything about Apple, but people are cursing Apple for the wrong reasons.
In CPU power, it appears the A5 at 800MHz is very minimally slower than the E... um.... whatever the CPU in the SGS2 is called at 1.2GHz.
What you're seeing the iPhone shine in is GPU power and browser-based benchmarks (Mobile Safari = pure win).
Not directed at the post quoted above, but I'm still waiting to see Kal-El in a phone or any device for that matter, and even then it's not certain that Android will reclaim the graphics performance crown.
512MB of RAM is more than enough on iOS. I know from personal experience that Android has hardware intensiveness and/or utilization issues, so there's an explanation. On my iPhone 4, I never felt a need for more RAM, even with multiple games (ie GTA, CoD, BFBC2) backgrounding (not regular iOS "multitasking", I mean ACTUAL backgrounding).
Also, the iPhone 4S will almost certainly be able to overclock to 1GHz.
