so in the case of the UMP in BF3, since damage is constant through out any virtual range in the game, i can put a silencer on my ump and a 4x snipe someone across a field with it and they will go down as if i shot them in the hallway. it's like when i used to snipe someone across the desert in Jalalabad in bf2 with the L96 then finishing them off with a 9mm pistol.
BF2 used a damage over distance model.
