Looking for advice on Low DPI mice for gaming.

Hi everyone, I'm Prozac and I look forward to learning from you all. Right now I'm trying to learn more about optical low dpi mice for gaming. I stumbled upon an article in the forum, somewhere, about Counter Strike and Optical Mice with low dpi: like 400 dpi. I got very curious because the article raised some very strong points.

Anyway, if you can recommend a mouse: past or present, that is Optical and has a fairly low dpi/or at least an adjustable dpi, I'd love to learn about them.smile.gif

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, Prozac thumb.gif

You'll find a high percentage of top FPS players use fairly low DPI.

Most popular mice right now are probably, in no particular order:
Logitech MX518/G400
Razer Abyssus
Razer Deathadder
Microsoft Intellimouse 3.0
Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1
Zowie EC1

Yes, that's what got me interested. I've always been a pretty high dpi 2000 to 5700 on laser mice, but still using fairly low sens. I wonder if I've been hyped into believing that laser and high dpi is better?

I use this mouse at the lowest DPI setting (500) and it's my favorite mouse by far. The only negative is it has glossy plastic sides, but they are smooth at-least.

I have never been so satisfied with a mouse personally, but that's just me.
I've had it about 6 months and it still looks brand new too. and its not 100$ like some mice smile.gif

Just throwing it out there, sorry if 500 isn't low enough.

This but I wouldn't suggest the EC series. The zowie mico is better.

You may want to look into cm storm spawn/xornet, too. Spawn goes to 800 dpi right now and the xornet can go to 500. They both have nice build quality.

I would wait for reviews on the CM Xornet. The Spawn isn't that great at 800 dpi.

You've been hyped. Laser is inferior to optical and there is no advantage to high DPI as you can only draw so many pixels on screen per inch (varies with sensitivity) anyway. Some have argued high dpi is worse because the needless polling just creates room for artifacts and errors which makes your movement curve less linear.

I use a palm grip on my Logitech G500. This is the shape of the mouse I've gotten used to: which is perfect - the shape that is - because I play on the low sens side, I pick my mouse up a lot when I'm gaming FPS, so I have to grip it between my thumb and ring finger. If a mouse doesn't offer the ability for me to use this grip, I won't even consider it.

I believe you are correct monstaaar. I'm just trying to learn enough about optical and lower dpi to help me pick out a good optical mouse....I have no clue what is good because I've been using laser so long. That's why I joined this forum: to find out. Funny thing the 2 best players in my Unreal Tournament 2004 clan, use the MX518 optical by Logitech. The rest of us use laser mice and are getting our asses kicked. eek.gif

Thanks everyone for teaching me. Monstaaar, do you have any data I can review to show the difference between optical and laser mice, and why I should pick optical?
