AMD'er wants to convert. Ideas?

Thread Starter
So I recently built my first computer and went AMD/ATI mainly because of the price, but now the more I research (and the worse early BD releases look) the more I think I want to switch to Intel and NVidia. Do you all agree with my current plan, which is to wait for Ivy bridge/600 series (and swap mobos)?

Also, will I be able to reinstall my windows OEM? Thanks guys

Wait. Wait for the *REAL* benchmarks post release and then decide, simply for the fact that you've already invested.

If you were building a new system, I would also tell you wait and see.

Just be patient and make your decision once you have real evidence in your hands.

No matter what I wont make any decisions until Winter 2012 so I will definitely see how ivy/600 series and BD all perform in the long run. But I'm not trying to start a flame war I love my computer so far, I'm just one of those people who always wants "a little more". But for the price I paid I think price/performance would be equal to intel

If you're using your PC for gaming, just keep with what you have until Haswel or something REALLY REALLY worth it to come out.

In most cases, the Phenom II x4 is still a very good chip for gaming, especially since your chip is at 3.9ghz. There aren't many games that having an Intel chip is a real advantage (there are some, but not many).

If you are dead set on converting, go ahead, but you won't notice a difference.

keep what you have for a couple months, if your only gaming (unless your not getting the desired fps) / browsing/daily driver ... add an SSD for your OS / favorite game / programs/ store everything else on your platter. 3.9ghz should run most any program/game with good results.

This is hit or miss. My current rig I just ripped out my old E8650/LGA775/Nvidia chipset board to replace with a 2500K/LGA1155/Z68 intel chipset board and when I got into windows all I had to do was click: "Click here to verify windows"

Immediately came back: "Thank you for registering, your windows is valid."

And, worst case, you call Micro$oft and tell them your MOBO failed and rather than track down old parts you upgraded to new.

Thanks guys I think I'll do what AMD freak said and get an SSD for windows and then just wait at least a year to upgrade.

If your activation fails, simply do the phone activation and tell them you replaced your motherboard and they will activate for you.

OT: My X4 rig handles games just fine. I actually built a 2500K rig simply because of my flight simulators (which seem to love strong single threads).

hmm..here comes the ..what kind of intel/nvidia build do you think you could have gotten for what you spent on your components?probably nothing that performs as well as what you have.BTW i kinda like the immediate desktop responses versus waiting 28 seconds when i right click (with a 2500k)also..firefox opens immediately with the phenom chip..instead of me doubleclicking it..and 20 seconds later it pops up
