Is WD Green really that bad?

Thread Starter
I`m in the process of building a new rig, and the WD 2TB Black costs twice as much as the Green one. Most people say that Green is for data, and Black is for boot drive.

If i get the Green, will the only things affected be the boot time, and loading times in games? Or is it more than that?
I`d really appreciate any help with this..

The green drives are made to be low power and low heat so the trade off is general performance. I would grab a Samsung SpinPoint, as they are great value for money.

I'm currently using the Green one and it boots programs fine for me and my computer starts up in under a minute.

Loading anything on the green will be slower than a black drive. They make great data drives. Poor for OS drives though.

It's supposed to be a pretty decent HDD. 32Mb cache, compared to the 16Mb of the Samsung, same RPM..

and opening programs etc.

I personally think the load time difference isn't huge, but I think i've heard caviar blacks are slightly better quality.

Also a lot of people recommend Samsung Spinpoint F3s because they're cheap (1TB can often be found on sale for around $50-$55) and are close to WD black performance.

That might be fine for you... but under a minute is a really long time. Yes, I am spoiled with SSDs!

So the gaming performance won`t be affected at all?
