While it would be nice if ID let a little time pass to ensure the drivers were released and ready for launch, AMD's driver team sucks ass. Quote me.

Wow, you don't get it at all do you? AMD released the wrong drivers AFTER RAGE launched. That has nothing to do with what I just said. Carmack and his team never even considered the concurrent or older drivers at the time RAGE launched and as a result the existing certified drivers for AMD weren't compatible with RAGE. He was entirely reliant on the hardware manufacturers for no good reason.

I bet carmack had this all planned, he probably deliberately sabotaged this whole thing to prove to people "consoles are better" because they use the same hardware all the time but you have to code "many times" for different "graphics cards" and PC's should become more like consoles with "intel leading" go away. carmack needs to take a hike imo.

I really wish we could make a separate forum for such a poor mentality and game judging. Those who judge a game by the game, and those who judge a game on purely benchmarks and features. Nothing wrong with having both but at the end of the day a good game is a good game.

Its a moot point anyways, ATI's opengl stuff has always been terrible, pretty much why anyone running linux uses an nvidia card. I remember back in the day when quake came out, ati didn't even have an opengl driver, you needed a 3dfx card with the minigl driver or in my case, I had a riva 128 (nvidias first direct3d card) and it ran quake and quake 2 fine in 3d accelerated mode.

Id had the game running fine on their test machines. The wrong driver was released by AMD and the fixed one they released broke compatibility with other games. This is not Id's fault.

EDIT: I want to give props to Carmack for all he has done for gaming. He is getting a lot of flack from some younger gamers who don't really know his history.
Having problems with drivers that have been out for around a month =/= having problems because there are no drivers period. Your misdirection is comparable to one you'd find in an elementary persuasive essay, don't even try it.

No, id CLAIMS they had their games running fine on test machines. AMD launched their preview drivers in an attempt to fix id's problems. It's akin to having a friend try to fix your code and fail, and then shoving the burden on him. It's honestly despicable. It also shows that id didn't test their own game with existing drivers if the monthly certified drivers from AMD weren't compatible to begin with. Is it AMD's fault for not overseeing the production of a 3rd party game? No! id was responsible for making sure their game would work with existing systems but they clearly couldn't get that right and now they're blaming AMD for not fixing it properly with their first attempt.

Addendum: Give props to Carmack? No one cares. No one cares about your velvety misconceptions and misdirected respect either.
