I have a $100 bill in my wallet I can go deposit in my account downstairs and next door. So now I just need to figure out it it's possible for little ol' me to cut out part of my case. *browses OCN*

This is sort of tempting because the 4870x2 is still a pretty powerful card, just very power hungry, hot, and no DX11. I'll have to think about this. I know that my e8400 would bottleneck it a bit, and it would be pushing my 850W PSU a little bit.

Can you actually get a GPU that performs as well for ~$123? (with tax / shipping)
Driver support on the newer drivers seems to be just fine for me, I'm still running 4k series cards and am on 11.8 and haven't had any driver issues. 850w PSU is fine for tri-fire on these, I'd possibly even stretch to quadfire on a Corsair 850w, worst case scenario is it just switches off under load.

Word of warning: if you really like Dirt 3, 4k series cards when crossfired have a serious compatibility issue, on some wet tracks, you get texture strobing on the ground making them unplayable. Dirt 3 works just fine when you disable Catalyst AI, but this also disables crossfire, so you are down to 1 GPU performance, which is not enough to max the game in DX9. Just google hd4870x2 texture flashing dirt 3 to see more about this.

Thank you for posting your personal experience. I've had my 4870 512MB card for a couple of years now and I haven't had any driver issues. However, I have never had a crossfire set up. I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any issues with the newer drivers.

I don't own Dirt 3 so that won't be too much of an issue, but I will keep that in mind.

I'd rep you if I could.

Almost ready to pull the trigger on this, but with tax / shipping it's $123 instead of $109 which makes the deal a little less sweet. I wish I could find a free shipping coupon.

It's still a better price than any 5970 or equivalent OB on Newegg that I know of.

I decided to risk finding out later tonight that my case won't fit it. I think it will. *crosses fingers*

I got mine from the last time this sale was up on Tuesday. Was boxed and plastic-wrapped, etc. The outer shipping box was banged up pretty bad, but it didn't seem to have any effect on the VisionTek box inside. Took pics, just in case.

I've been having trouble with Civ V freezing momentarily for about 45 secs or so, mouse can move around, nothing else. This wasn't a problem previous to installing this card. Could be a driver incompatibility, I'm using whatever the latest driver is. Gonna mess around with that later tonight. And install more case fans, in case that is an issue. My case keeps me feet much warmer now than with my previous card. Hope the freezing isn't the reason it was a refurb in the first place.

Disable ULPS. And try 10.11 drivers, they are often the best for this series (only do this if you know you have issues with latest drivers). What card was in the system before? Consider running Driver Sweeper.

It would actually be quad-fire, the x2 cards are already crossfired .

The previous card was a HIS4850 512GB. I had to uninstall the drivers for that of course, I was using the most recent drivers -- had updated them for SWTOR beta-- and reinstalled the same ones again once the 4870x2 was installed.

Will try your suggestions. Thanks.
