Run furmark/3dmark/other GPU benchmarks and see what happens when they're at full load.
running it now. its working. when this happened the first time it would do the same thing trying to run furmark.

Yeah, I believe the Nvidia cards throttle themselves in furmark to prevent overheating/potential harm.

If you got a black screen followed by system hang after running Furmark, you most likely have a power supply problem.

For the PSU, I'd recommend either an AX1200 or a HCP-1200. If you want to go for a cheaper yet good one, the Strider Gold 1200W and the OCZ ZX 1250W are winners.

Edit: I just saw the Strider Gold is just as expensive as the AX1200... I'd rank them like that:

1- HCP-1200 (King of PSUs right now, it can pump 1700W from the wall and still work perfectly)
2- AX1200 (Very good on ripple and voltage regulation but it's not a 1500W PSU that is down rated like the HCP-1200 )
3- ZX 1250W (I'd put the Strider Gold there but at this price, it's not better than the HCP or the AX)
4- Strider Gold 1250W (The price...)

No problem. I did see your original comment about not saying anything if you dont know line. I usually have a good idea. Keep comments like this to yourself or you will get people like me not helping you again.

As for power supply recommendation: I would go with the AX by corsair or Seasonic or Strider.

Cheers.

Not powerful enough for tri-sli, though. Easily handles 2 cards but not 3.

Did you read the whole thread?

He has 3 cards. 1KW is minimum. Efficiency just means how much power he will pull from the wall.
