2. If its just being used for gaming 8gb is more than enough. I only upgraded from 4gb to 8gb because of my rendering work.

3. Anything over 15" is not portable. They weigh a ton, and are massive. I dont know the screen size of either of those, but thats what i've found with laptops in general.

4. Get a SAGER. Much better price. This, by default, will do all the gaming you'll ever need: http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.p...el_name=NP8150 If you REALLY want to, go to a 580m or 6990m. Either way you'll be well under $2000.
Thank you i will just get him a frag box from falcon or maybe if i get out of this job thing get an h2go from MM and build in their (not going custom loop probably like a h50)

just get him a decent laptop with a 2630qm and a 560m or amd equivalent. I currently have the 2630qm and a 555m in my laptop and it pretty much can handle all games out, obviously not with top tier graphics but the type of thing hes looking to do is for fun and not to show off.

hell a quick look on sager you can get the get everything i just listed for 1349 with a faster hard drive, and it will still chew most things apart.

edit: dam looks like i was to slow on that ball lol.

If he goes to friends' houses a lot, build him a sick portable itx or micro atx build with a beefy GPU in it.

that could EASILY be done with a budget like that.

heh, looks like i got beat to the idea of a fragbox. They're really great machines and falcon northwest is a pretty good company. their prices aren't the best but some of their specialty builds like the fragbox are of very high quality.

Wow, can you adopt me please? I'd gladly take those specs.

Also, personally I would go for the second choice. The sandy-bridge future proofs the system, even though its clock rate isn't higher than the 990x, it uses less power, better for gaming, and exhausts less heat. Also the 12gb ram isn't necessary, especially if he is only 13 years old, and is just looking for a gaming laptop.

Personally I would ditch the SLI. Just go for a better card. In a laptop, you obviously want the best specs, however if it consumes less power and generates less heat, the better off you'll be. Also, consider buying him a good gaming mouse/mousepad/headset/extra laptop batteries/Verizon wireless mobile hotspot WiFi. Because it looks like you have that type of cash...
