First Build - Stupid Question

Ok so I just got my Seasonic S12II in the mail and opened it. Then plugged in the AC cord to the wall and turned the I/O to I but the fan didn't start up... Is this supposed to happen or is it DOA?

I also didn't here a noise. Nothing is plugged into it, cables still wrapped up.

I believe those PSU's fans don't run until you have some sort of load

Also, the PSU is technically only on standby even though you put it on the on position. You need to short these specific pins on the Motherboard power connector to actually "turn it on"

You have to plug it to the motherboard and then plug the power button wires to the mobo pins then you can start the pc.

If you want to test your PSU you can jump it w/ a paper clip and insert it into a green and black cable "slot" with the switch on off. Then switch it on.

Won't turn on unless plugged in to mobo or use a jumper.

Oh, ok. I'll try that when my other stuff gets here. Thanks all. Hopefully it isn't DOA though

Do the paper clip trick on the 24 pin bend a paper clip over green and any black wire. And then put it down and turn on the psu. And its best if you attached a fan because some psu fans dont' turn on unless its under load.

and there if my explanation wasn't good enough

If he's already got it installed he can just use a screwdriver or other metal object and touch the two metal pins for the power button front panel connector together, or use the power button on his mobo if he has one.

Would probably be more convenient than unplugging it all and doing the paperclip method

Well I guess I should try reading before posting, eh?

That's what happens when I try to juggle homework and OCN

No I have the motherboard, CPU, cooler, RAM, and a hard drive. But I'm too lazy to do it, want to build when everything gets here.
