No, a bit slower. The 6870 was the 5770 replacment. The 6970 replaced the 5870

When the 4670 came out it was a great little card. But yeah, now it's nothing more than a placeholder for something greater.

That CPU is still gonna bottleneck the GPU haaard. No lie. I had a Phenom II 550 @ 3.8GHz and it kept back the full potential of my GTX 470 a while back. Not terribly far though, the higher clock speed helped that a lot, however it was noticeable compared to when I had the Xeon a while ago.

But yeah, if you can find something like a QX9450 on the cheap, I know they're hard to find cheaply, then you'd be golden for a looooong time. Despite their age, the Core 2 series still manage to stay in the race pretty well. And nice system your kid has. XD Better than what I had after my USAF time had run out.

i3's can do some pretty amazing things and can be had for a nice price.

After waiting to see what Bulldozer would bring to the table, I'm probably going i3 here soon also.

i3 vs i7 Gaming Performance.
