Honestly, I can not say for certain if this is the case, because I have no proof, but read the highlighted part carefully...

"Now the saddest thing is not only the performance but in which AMD tries to manage this. I heard from a little birdie that some folks at AMD will start callins press tomorrow to ask them how reviews are going and try to do some damage control ( this reminds me of Nvidia calling press before GTX 480 launch ) Actually many of the press guys I talked to are a little bit puzzled and really don't know how to approach the situation. From my point of view it is pretty clear, the truth ( no matter how much it hurts ) is the only way"
I leave you to make your own conclusions and what you make of it.

Remember this was from a "leaked review" that showed exactly what we are seeing from MOST reviews.

So how are the cores being disabled then?

And are you trying to compare the 4 core deneb with a 8150 (with a odd half the cores "on"?

I'm trying to clarify what you've posted in several threads. I don't think it's an apt comparison and would rather see the 4100 compared to 4 core denebs than an 8150.

**Edit** I see that they explain the process a little bit, but I'm curious on why they chose those cores on each module. I saw a graph somewhere (too many reviews) that had 8 core turbo, and then a 4 core turbo mode (which was higher than the 8 core).

Just trying to sort through some of the reviews. It's my first time I've actually been interested in a launch of a CPU

the guy in that thread disabled one core in each module so i was a quad core, that way each core would avoid sharing resources in said module.i have seen others post this info about this thread and say 10% to 30% increase in performance in some tests.either way its still a serious issue and AMD screwed up big time.i dont think many will pay for a 8150 only run it as a quad-core.this most likey is the cache thrashing everyone is talking about

what we need is to see someone disable one core PER module so that none of the active ones have to share resources.. i'm hoping that is possible, but ofc can't say for sure if there is a chance to disable or massively downclock one core per module! devil.gif

correct in the above graph that disabling two modules only simulates the FX4110 sharing resources and all.
the guy at XS's used a newer version of the asus OCing software/or UEFI bios i think that allowed disabling of individual cores something the original software/UEFI bios didnt have this setting only the setting that allowed turning off muodules.again i didnt read the thread thoroughly before XS's went down.

Oh by the way guys... PRICES.

You all are comparing an EIGHT CORE chip, to the price of a FOUR core 2500K?

HAH!

Well of course the EIGHT core is going to cost MORE then the FOUR Core!

Wait till the FOUR Core FX-B4150 or the FX-4170 hits the shelves and reviews on those two start showing up... THEN you can have a fair comparision on prices.

In the edited section they said they disabled one core per module not two modules. (0,2,4,6 were running)

The problem though was doing this through Windows.

Well its usual people compare a top product from a company with a top product from its competitor.. So that would include price.

Disappointing. The high TDP seems normal for 8 cores but for the performance, it's disappointing. Looks like I'll be getting SB.

On AMDZone someone mentioned that the L1 cache is significantly slower than the Thuban, this could be the culprit of the performance problems. While I didn't expect a 6 core SB beater, performing worse than Thuban per core does seem a bit too bad. Hopefully it'll be like the Phenom I's TLB bug, after they fix it we'll get a 10% or so performance gain, but even then that only means it's on part with Thuban clock for clock.

Someone that needs the power won't even think about the one that doesn't deliver it.

I do agree that these chips are much more than what the average consumer needs. But with the single thread performance being the way it is, I cannot see the point of anyone buying the quad core over a Phenom II quad core. The only advantage BD has is core count, and if you go into the lower segment that flies right out the window and you are left with only the disadvantages.
When people are throwing money at a computer just because it's the most expensive in the lineup (intel's 990 for example) which I have seen. I built one for someone just cause he had the money, he doesn't really do anything with it. Surfing porn, craigslist, and some minimal gaming. It's what people do to feel better than other people.

And by the way, Honda made the NSX to make people feel like they were driving a car compariable to a ferrari!
