[Official] AMD Bulldozer Reviews Thread - Page 121

Aren't 8 core bulldozer's a 4 module CPU?

If so, it's perfectly justified comparing a 8 core AMD to a 4 core Intel.

Or 8 thread vs 8 thread.

I think the whole 8 core thing was just a marketing gimmick.

Chew* for example pointed out that Bulldozer's design was more of a 4 Core / 8 thread part.

HAH!
Anyone with the correct number of chromosomes compares not core count, but relative performance per dollar.

LOL @ amd

Something has GOT to be wrong,

slower clock per clock than previous generation?

Ya something is wrong.....

If amds next release still sucks than bye bye amd forever.

Although i will still purchase amd , because iam scared of the intel kill switch

I'm trying to clarify what you've posted in several threads. I don't think it's an apt comparison and would rather see the 4100 compared to 4 core denebs than an 8150.

**Edit** I see that they explain the process a little bit, but I'm curious on why they chose those cores on each module. I saw a graph somewhere (too many reviews) that had 8 core turbo, and then a 4 core turbo mode (which was higher than the 8 core).

Just trying to sort through some of the reviews. It's my first time I've actually been interested in a launch of a CPU
something to keep in mind, BD have 4 "full cores", 4 modules, each module have 2 "cores", 2 thread with some shared resources,
so a 2 module, 4 cores BD will suffer against a PII X4 which have twice some of the stuff, so the ideal scenario for the BD in this case would be to disable 1 thread per module and keep 4 modules, but that is simply not viable, and even so, the IPC is still very low for each module compared to Intel and PII, so............

2 threads on one module vs 2 threads on one core with HT looks bad,
1 thread on one module vs 1 thread on a sb core without HT would look A LOT worse.

anyway, always keep in mind that we can cause a very different impression with basically the same thing,

xbitlabs tested this game with the physx option enabled

they didn't

And by the way, Honda made the NSX to make people feel like they were driving a car compariable to a ferrari!
Honda's NSX was actually competitive with the Ferrari 348 when it first came out. It's just that Honda never bothered to significantly update the car after that, but Ferrari made two major revisions (360 and 430) during the same period.

ALSO, TOM's used cheap Crucial DRR3-1333 RAM...

While HardwareHeaven used high end Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 RAM.

Also, as for ASRock and BIOS support etc; yes ASrock did recently release a BIOS update for their 990FX Series boards that are intended to optimize the Bulldozer better then their previous BIOS Updates... THAT, you can read about in the ASRock 990FX Fan club threads here on OCN.

There's your difference...

Its all in the hardware and how its setup.
Sorry, try again. I used a full scorpius platform (CVF, FX-8150, HD6970) and solid ram (G.Skill Flare DDR3-1866 / 6-9-7-24). My results pretty much mirror everyone else's - the FX-8150 is just plain not as good as a 2600K.

It's not the board, as some has surmised - why on earth would AMD send the board with the chip if it performed worse than someone else's board? It just doesn't make any sense. The most up-to-the-minute BIOS update was available from AMD too, so it's not that.

I think Hardwareheaven's selection of games just happened to make BD look better than other selections of games; nothing more nothing less. There's no conspiracy. HH didn't do anything wrong; it was just a different test suite.

Yeah. Don't understand why certain people continue to defend AMD..

They basically pulled an Intel when their P4's were slower than the P3's clock for clock. Funnily enough, AMD actually had the faster CPU in comparison to anything Intel put out back then.

You forgot the F355...
