Genuinely curious here, I just came into this Bulldozer bonanza. Someone send me a PM and explain the situation to me.
Well, I don't think calling it "on par" or "cheaper" than the 2500K is quite accurate, and Bulldozer's power consumption is borderline ridiculous.

The issue is that Bull Dozer isn't on par with an i5 with many common work loads. On top of that it costs more (8150) then a 2500k.

BD 8120 (Slower then the 8150 that was reviewed) $220

Also a few reviews have overclocked an 8150 to 4.6Ghz. At this point it is still slower then an i5 2500K running at stock clocks. Once you overclock the 2500K to ~4.6Ghz there is no competition.

AMD needs to get IPC up again to Phenom II levels, and boost the frequencies possible to remain a strong competitor in this market place.

I really don't expect Piledriver to accomplish this.

did you see the overclocked power consumption? 430w for just the cpu is ridiculous power

Would it be worth my time to sell my AMD mobo and buy an Intel 1155 one to get an i5?

I don't do any encoding of any sort. Just some moderate gaming and programming / development.

Ok, that doesn't make any sense.. Why is hardware-heaven's review so much different than the other 30? Is there an issue with Asus 990FX boards that we don't know of?

Do you have a 990X board?

If so, it would probably save you a couple bucks to just grab Bulldozer. For performance, take the 2500K.

I've got an 890 CHIV.

If you already have the board, probably not. Were I you I'd look for a used Phenom II.

What CPU are you currently using with it?

It really is difficult to say what platform you should go with. If you have a decent chip right now (Black x4 or an x6) and you haven't really had any performance issues I would wait a bit. I have a feeling that AMD will be dropping prices on BD within the next month. However, with the superior performance of the 2500K, and LGA2011 right around the corner the number of choices increases.

I remember reading a website that is claiming Intel is going to release a 4 core i7 on the LGA2011 platform for around $300. This is what a current gen 2600K is going for.

Personally I am going to wait a bit to see how this BD launch plays out. If I can snag an 990FX board and an 8120 on the cheap I might jump on that. (IE: ~$325 - $350)

So your saying the i5-2500K is a piece of crap too, right?
I mean its at the same performance level as the BD and since BD is a piece of crap then the 2500K should be too, right?

Think before you post.
