[Official] AMD Bulldozer Reviews Thread - Page 137

OMG, guys were you not following the conversation and how it began? If you had followed my comment to what it was originally posted to you would see I was not arguing performance / watt.

What was posted:

My response:

How is it a power guzzler?
I was just pointing out they really are not using more power per core

Because you are playing the game slower than you would, and using more power than you would be using an i5 2500k. Not to mention you paid more money. To me that's "getting less done".

Well then by your logic get a 955. Is there any game you want to run that it can't handle? If there is get a 1090t. It doesn't make it as good as a 2500K though. These benchmarks' purpose is to look at the performance of each CPU. Bulldozer is underwhelming in most.

Funny thing is those chips all beat BD in IPC, which is what matters in games, not core count.

Wow this thread is nasty!

I think the expectations for Bulldozer were too high.
It performs quite well IMO...atleast a company is challenging Intel.

It costs about $35 less. In an intelligent society, you usually need to provide evidence or else your claims tend to be dismissed.

There's really no reason that a company should release a CPU that has a new architecture and is supposed to keep them going, and have it under-perform or equal chips that they currently have. And the fact that it equals or under-performs the competition....

I didn't have any expectations for BD. I didn't follow it at all. Seeing the reviews and benchmarks, it's sad.

I did notice that it does very well on video rendering and competes with the 980x on that. Not to shabby for video encoding.

But, the BD chip doesn't slow down the computing experience, it just doesn't meet the threshold of being a dominant chip.

Also, I can garuantee that this BD (4 years from now), will handle future software better than the current SB. It is inevitable, and spending $245 now doesn't mean ur rig is slow! And.. since, "Joe Public" does't buy a computer every 3 years, I see no loss for AMD. It just isn't a big win for current software.
4 years? Do you know how long that is in computer time? Buying a cpu that will only reach its full potential in 4 years is a terrible terrible idea. By that time something far far faster will be out. And this is all based on the assumption that software will suddenly undergo a REVOLUTION and somehow begin utilizing 8 full cores, rather than the 2-4 that is the VAST majority. You can go to the grave saying it's a good purchase but really, wake up and smell the flowers.
