[Official] AMD Bulldozer Reviews Thread - Page 152

As an admitted AMD supporter, I am absolutely disgusted by this release. I dont even understand why they would release this chip that has its "forward looking" architecture, when it so blatantly under performs its predecessors. Shouldnt the engineering team be able to figure out that this arch is terrible and it cannot compete?

At what point did AMD really think this was a Win??? Why AMD, with products like this you deserve to lose customers.

Besides, whats up with these overly assertive names for cpu generations? With a name like excavator or piledriver, you better be burying the competitor, not yourself. Unless pilepooper can drive my car for me while buying flowers for my girlfriend, Im going intel for my next build.

Sorry AMD, if you didnt suck so hard I would still support you.

Sad but true...............

Fail.

Honestly I hope that there is some firmware update that corrects the issue. What I would like to see is a benchmark that shows L1 cache performance in comparison with the other top processors. I know that it was rumored in some of the first K10 opterons that there might be an L1 bug which turned out to actually be a northbridge issue.

IRT dlee, I guess the hype and PR worked in their favor if Newegg sold out their stock. Hopefully when AMD realizes what is bogging down their processors they'll apologize for the initial confusion, if it's a bug. I still find it hard to believe that this would happen.

The irony is that Intel was doing a similar thing in the Athlon64 days. They'd sell higher clock frequencies to people that had no idea what a benchmark was.

I'm sure AMD is quite aware that Bulldozer is not competitive performance-wise. They know they messed up.

But some of you guys needs to realize that AMD can't just admit BD is terrible and scrap it. They have no choice but to market it to sell to the uninformed. If they didn't, and consequently no one bought it, they would suffer enormous losses and any hope of AMD spending on R&D to bring out a competent architecture in the future would be crushed.

I'm not saying I support their deceptive marketing strategies, but there's really no easy way out of this right now. We, as consumers, can also not afford to have Bulldozer fail in the market. You all are aware of what would happen if AMD were to disappear from the desktop CPU market altogether.

exactly, they are pushing the "worlds first eight core" and "world record holder" crap. and its working. newegg is sold out of the 8150, i'm sure that this was the plan months ago after amd started seeing what their new BD was amounting to. they arn't targeting the enthusiast for this, they're going for the everyday consumer on the concept that more is better.

exactly, its like when new members pop up thinking that the 1100T outperforms the 2500k because it has more cores. the angle that AMD is going for is working for them, and what more, even if newegg only had 50 8150s in stock, a new computer builder will see "worlds first eight core" "world record holder" and "sold out" and combine everything together and assume its the best thing on the market.

This is so funny to watch this thread explode with fanboy rage. Its sad to see AMD perform as such. If they keep failing maybe qualcomm or texas instruments might buy them out... I just hope Intel does not get slammed with anti trust laws if AMD keeps messing up. I hope the best for them.
