Maybe all it needs is, you know, a software patch, perhaps something called a driver?

At the moment, using the FX CPU's as they are right now, without a proper driver or BIOS or software patch or whatever, it could be like playing games without your GPU driver installed:

Sure it works, but what about optimisations?

Hence, people of OCN, you make me

Yeah, I don't see how this isn't a given.

Anything sharing a module needs to share part of the L1, and L2 cache, an FPU, and a few other resources.

In most cases, spreading threads out to different modules would improve performance, while in a few cases where threads are tightly linked but don't compete for FPU resources, putting them on the same module would be better.

For these reasons, it's likely that improved OS scheduling (in WIndows 8 and a patch for WIndows 7) will give BD a modest improvement in performance and efficiency.

Hey guys,

Is AM3+ only limited to 8 Cores? I was reading up the road map which they are going up to like 16 cores modules and etc. Even up to like 48+ cores in 2014. But will all these be remain in AM3+?

side note: the roadmap is killing themselves... that is too slow in term of performance increase and just by adding more cores.

This. Yes it improved but its still slower than their previous CPU which shows you just how slow BD is at launch. Nothing to be impressed by guys, calm down. BD is still awful.

It's called innovation and AMD has the guts to do it! Intel steals their design queues and masters them

More than you think.

It is NOT however a place to bash people who anticipated BD and its performance, be it as it may, nor does it give a reason for those who have no interest in discussing it but rather nit-picking at details.

The Anandtech review commented on the problems with current schedulers in some detail:

They do understand this and have been working with OS developers. Generally, the hardware comes first and the software comes later.

Think of how long it took for each incarnation of SSE to become widespread (even with the vastly larger Intel pushing for it) or for for x86-64 to be supported.
