What that means is that the chip will still sell well enough that AMD will be able to continue research and development in the CPU arena which means there is still hope for a competitive CPU market.

It also means that Sandy Bridge will remain an affordable CPU option.

Edited to answer the following:

You might want to check the Linus Tech Tips videos from recent days. NCIX is offering some pre-built and pre-OCed Bulldozer based rigs for sale (with the ASUS board and the GPU he used in his test video). Obviously Linus was not instructed to benchmark BD processors in a GPU bottlenecked situation. He took matters into his own hands because he has a vested interest in BD performing as well as the 2500K.
Yes, it will sell. That does not make it any better.

Are you trolling? Nobody even tries to combat my reasoning because they are to narrow minded to think that hell maybe we should leave FP calculations to the gpu, considering thats what they are designed for.... why build a cpu that is great at fp calculations when a gpu can do it 4 times faster. Thats what Amd's goals are. Let the gpu do what is was designed for.
Unfortunately, AMD does not have anywhere near the influence that intel has for this shift to happen. If intel went to something like that, you can bet that it would happen very quickly (relatively at least).

Bulldozer is a weaker quad when it comes to floating point calculations. But in everything but floating point it rocks.
The problem is that x86 work is alot of floating point work.
So when it comes down to it Amd wants the floating point work to go to the gpu where it excels, and it wants the cpu to do the stuff the gpu cant.
I mean think about it the gpu's are made for floating point calculations. Amd is trying to move all floating point data to the gpu.
Bulldozer is like a rough corvette. sure its not a Lamborghini with pure horse power like the 2500k. BUT it is ahead of its time. If you cant understand that then I dont know what to tell you. Your just in denial. Intel is going a pure FP route while AMD is saying hey we have GPU's for that and trying to conquer other things.

The problem happens to be that everything is made to handle alot of FP calculations. AMD is moving forward while Intel is saying Hahahaha you cant jump 10 years ahead. Just like the 64 bit days.

Amd isn't supposed to beat Intel. It's supposed to push them.
That is without a doubt THE worst analogy I have ever read.

That aside, it doesn't matter if Bulldozer will perform 10X better in 2015. If it performs bad now, why would you buy it now? AMD does not have anywhere near the leverage that Intel has, so any optimizations towards that arch is going to be slow, very slow. I am willing to bet that you can buy a SB now, and by the time you are ready to upgrade again software side optimizations will not be anywhere near the optimal state for BD.

And the bolded part is the state that we are in at this point in time. It makes BD not a good buy.

Who cares about AMD? We should care about us, and as it stands TODAY BD is not a good buy.

He is in a biased position to get people to buy from the store he works at.

"Hai guys, Lunus here. We will be selling these new pre-overclocked 8 core bulldozer systems soon! But don't hold your breath because as the reviews have proven over and over this CPU is a piece of garbage, so please don't give us your business. We are going to assemble, overclock and stress test a total of 50 of these systems and we want them to sit in the back room collecting dust."

Are you following me here? In his position he can't be honest and say something like that.

BIASED. PERIOD.

As long as it sells now, there will be two players in the CPU market and that means there is still competition. Admittedly one of the two makes a better product at the current time, but as long as there are two there is a possibility that one will overcome the current leader.

He was biased, for sure, but his information corresponds with all the other reviews out there. Still a sad day in AMD land.
