[Official] AMD Bulldozer Reviews Thread - Page 31

I was expecting to see slightly better numbers then the ones presented...it is disheartening to see that a thuban was matching/beating it in some cases. I hope AMD can take this as a lesson learned and improve it as best as they can.

I'm in no big hurry to upgrade but I'll wait until BD-e/piledriver to decide on my next upgrade.

This post is going to get heated! I will admit quite a let down but I wasn't expecting it to compete with a 2500/2600 k at least not for that price. but I was blown away when they're being beaten by ther last generations chip that was a shocker to me. I Also know that now amd has shown their cards I'm sure the sb-e. will be super expensive seeing how they have no competition I'm expecting them to charge 1k now 4 those new chips. The true downside to amd losing the performance race is the intel users that are going to get screwed by paying too much because of lack of competition

Nobody was expecting crushing, or even equal, but within 10% would have been nice. As had been said before, the consistency of the "leaks" was never encouraging.

What really caught me off guard is how utterly awful the power consumption is. It truly adds insult to injury. chew of XS had even brought up CPU-NB OCing as an avenue to explore; this was fairly early (August?)...but with BD being SO far behind, it's really not gonna do much good.

People keep harping on price - um, MC's Intel specific deals have made this a moot point. AMD simply can't compete with the $149/$179 i5 2500K deals.

@Evil Penguin - I'd rather call this an Athlon III X8. At least the expectations would be more hedged lol.

You know what, that's a VERY good question. We all know how well Phenom II responded to NB clocks, perhaps its the same thing with BD?

I will probably ended up in my 80s before AMD will ever beat Intel. 3 thinks have to happen at the same time for AMD to get on top. Release a CPU thats very fast, Intel fail with their next CPU, Market towards CPU takes a different approach.

As if the platform needs an excuse to consume more power From a pure performance aspect that is a valid question, though.
