Meh, I guess that's it then... Ivy here I come...

Well this architecture is clearly terrible. A die shrunk Phenom II with 8 REAL cores would have done better and probably overclocked just as well without the insane power draw.

Then keep a couple of the Thubans at 45nm (such as 1075T and 1100T) and then pump out some highly clocked 32nm denebs on AM3+ socket to fill the gap.
If what I read is true, all BD chips are exactly the same but with 1/2 modules disabled for the quad/hex and 8150 cherry picked (to run lower voltages at the higher clocks). I doubt they would stop selling the quad/hex, as they can sell a chip that failed one or two modules. They have a lot of work ahead of them, though.

And no you can't unlock the modules, at least according to AMD. ~$120 for an 8120/8150 just might make it worth it if it somehow becomes possible... might.

I am pretty sure there are people who would pay $199.99 for a FX 8150 just to have 8 cores. Hopefully Microcenter is going to do something like that.

I cant believe that the 8150 sucks so much wattage, you can compare it to an awful 980x...
at least you can drop about 30Watts with undervolting.

And take another 5 - 6 years to release? I don't think so, they will try and fix whatever is wrong, who knows at this point. A die shrink of Phenom 2 may be more worth while for them.

The Guru3D review, as opposed to the HardOCP, blames entirely the software for the poor results. Another AMD intervention, pretty obvious as this is damage limitation yet again. While I agree software is not on par, I do not agree with the fact that Thuban is right there where Bulldozer is. So why the software excuse when the old architecture from AMD does just fine??

From hitechlegion :

Reading this review makes one ask, where is INTEL in all this? It is pretty obvious that AMD is the performance king ... from this review.

The lab501 guys were spot on. AMD has pushed some buttons and the fact that review sites have responded to this is an insult to us as readers. I was very interested in buying a Bulldozer rig but with such photoshoped reviews, I will wait for IVY.
I had been saying it for a LONG time as to how people could discredit everything. After JF-AMD called everything fake, not indicative of final performance, people followed suit. They took his word as gospel, because he works at AMD. Wasn't it obvious that he was here to save the public perception of the company?

There was so many different leaks from different sources, heck OBR was right all along and people bashed him. I kept stating facts and well, if you spent any time in the BD blog, you know-how that went.

Remember what the LAB501 guy said, that AMD would attempt damage control, looks like it worked with some reviewers.

CLASSIC!

In the credits they state that it was a 2500K. Legitimate mistake or purposeful deceit is the question.
They left that for the end. If it was a legitimate mistake they could've edited it and corrected the BEGINNING doesn't take long. Send me the video I'll fix it for the free of charge.

OCN TOS:

Deserves a ban IMO.
Ban may be going too far. However, JF-AMD really deceived a lot of people though I look forward to what he has to say. I called him out on a lot of stuff he said which didn't add up, but ran into a TON of nay sayers defending JF-AMD and AMD as a whole.

They finally disabled comments on this fraudulent video... I wonder why...
False advertising at its finest, I can't believe AMD would stoop this low. Remember 80% of their purchases come from the uninformed, BD will still sell.

What looks better to the average Joe? 8 cores @ 3.6 or 4 cores @ 3.4?

If those people do any sort of research though...they will be disappointed with their purchase.

True but they wont be able to make a dime selling them for that price, if they are reduced to selling their top of the line 8 core cpus for less than $150 then they are finished in this market sector.

All in all this is just a monumental failure from AMD, there's not much they can do to salvage this, although I think my earlier suggestions will probably be the least damaging to their bottom line long term.

I have to agree with you on this one.

An 8 core Phenom II with the die shrink would have performed better. Even the 6 core Phenom II without the die shrink almost out performs Bulldozer every other benchmark.
