Ya'll don't be afraid of those numbers, it looks normal to me! In fact, looks not bad at all and I don't trust their UPS power meter and will use my own. We will see what it does..

But, fact is, unless we get some lower voltage processors, it's going to take that much power to run that many cores at those speeds. Nothing odd in the numbers to me! Looks normal!

I am a little underwhelmed. From all the benchmarks, it seems that you pay the price for the 8 physical cores with power usage, but the performance is in the range of the 4 core 2500k.

This kind of sums up my thoughts.

From an enthusiast performance standpoint, the FX-8150 is wedged in between the 2500K and 2600K parts in deeply threaded workloads, with it being closer to the 2500K for sure. In single threaded applications Bulldozer is coming in behind even our Phenom II X6 1100T.

Well, I'll tell you something, I am very tempted to return the AMD Sabertooth Mobo I have and get an Intel Sabertooth.... OTOH, I could also wait for BD-Z2 and see how that goes.

Sigh, hard to know what to do.

I agree... but Passmark has a total of one (1) sample! I'm not sure that is the whole story... However, with 8 threads on 8 real cores, it should crunch BOINC fine... except we still don't know those numbers either.

I'm a FIRM believer that in all cases, more threads at whatever speed = more WU production. So, for me, the only choice would be the 2600K or the 8150... What I would really like to see is what the numbers are for the 16 core Server BD chips...

Interesting to note, the 2500K vs. the 2600K shows a marked improvement using raw CPU power vs. Hyper-Threading. This is no surprise and there is tons of data on Hyper-Threading which in BOINC tasks amounts to about a factor of 1.4 to 1.7 daily production improvement. It doesn't give you twice the output, but it helps a lot in total output per day.

It is clear from the numbers though that the more cores, the more production in general. It is sad the 8150 doesn't match the 2600K over-clocked or not. But, for the price, it's not bad at all... Also, of particular interest is the 8150 will probably support GPUs better than the 2600K...maybe. So, that is something to consider...

(Not to mention the 8150/Sabertooth setup is $100+++ cheaper than the 2600K/Sabertooth setup.)

Why would you give amd another chance to fail you. The whole time thinking you should just got a 2500-2600k and called it a day.

Im so mad i waited for this crap. Bought a new motherboard, waterblocks for said motherboard.

Who would've thought they released something worse than phenom 2?

Actually, from a BOINC point of view and with limited data, it seems the BD chip is much better than the X4/X6 vintage P2's... Check out the TOP CPUs sheet... some interesting numbers there...

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...l=en_US#gid=79

Especially look at the bottom Daily WU Production values...

I may be thinking of a different generation CPU, but I thought it wasn't a true 8 cores, and they shared a lot of pieces with the other cores?

The definition of what a core is has been debated and that's how many people were lead to believe they aren't 8 "real" cores. They share some of the same resources and it got some people all flustered to hear them called cores. The definition of what is a core seems to be constantly changing and evolving with the industry.

Forget the CORE, think of it in THREADS...

BD 8120/8150 have 8 Threads...
