If your ISP hasn't increased the speeds of the service, it sounds like it's doing it's job. I'd be concerned about the modem if it was dropping signal.

Sounds like what you really want, is just a faster ISP... There isn't really anything you can do to make your current one faster.

That doesn't matter if it is able to keep up with the internet package you have. It sounds like you are getting ~6Mb/s down and ~.5-1Mb/s up. If all your parents are paying for is 6/1 then the modem is fine. I also hate to break it to ya, but gold plated ethernet cables (and Cat 7) won't do squat for your connection.

Look for other solutions. Maybe you could get 2 lines dropped at your house (pay 2x) if no other options are available.
