Now, what if you’re rocking an 890FX-based motherboard with a Socket AM3+ interface? AMD isn’t explicitly supporting such a configuration, though Socket AM3+/890FX boards do exist. Compatibility could be a roll of the dice, but there isn't any specific reason a vendor claiming interoperability can't achieve it.
AMD "blocked" core unlocking on the Athlon/Phenom II and we all saw how well that went. They claim to have blocked it with BD as well, if that turns out to be false then we will be laughing as all the BD chips use the same silicon so far.

Back on topic though, until someone with a CHIV tries it, you're really just blowing smoke.

alright thanks, i'll keep a look out, i don't want to test it first and get 10 times worse performance than my athlon

So my question is why did ASUS come out with a BIOS version for AM3+?

I haven't read the article but I am calling BS.

Here is link to update your BIOS for Crosshair IV Formula to support AM3+

Bumping this thread, seems AMD actually did disable this, saw some newegg reviews, seems that the ASUS BIOS's don't work at all for FX chips any more.

(also seems like you can't change any settings in some manufacturers boards).
