Laser vs Optical

Thread Starter
I'm new to serious gaming and have the G500, CM Spawn and the gigabyte M6900 mice. Whenever i use a laser mouse it feels kind of floaty to me....it's a strange sensation. But the Optical mice feels just so right, more robust in the feedback.....it's hard to describe. Do you think there is really any differences between laser/optical - can anyone tell the differences?

And do you think optical sensors are more durable because i would often come across comments that the users' laser mice has 'died' and they are looking for another mice but i've yet to hear of an optical mice that's died. I even use a cheap optical mice at work 8-10 hrs a day and it's going strong.....

if the optical mouse works better for you, just stick with it smile.gif
newer technology isn't always needed or useful for everyone ninja.gif

just use the mouse you feel more comfortable. Being a "serious gamer" doesnt mean you have to buy what someone posted on a blog. it means you take gaming seriously.

Again, use the mouse you play better with.

I believe optical sensors arent as accurate as laser ones.

Ive got a Roccat Kone+ that has the ADNS-9500 laser sensor, and I had a 3g Deathadder before hand (it broke). I've got to say I do prefer optical to laser. The Kone+ is still nice though, especially on a hard surface pad.

I find optical sensors (atleast the one in the 3g Deathadder (not the 3.5g)) are more 'direct'. It's hard to explain, but I definitely prefer it.

That is because optical sensors are more accurate still. No positive or negative acceleration. Laser is currently sold to clueless people.

I believe optical sensors arent as accurate as laser ones.

If you move your mouse fast, Optical is far better than laser. All laser mice have acceleration, so if you move a laser mouse fast, it's going to skip.

Laser/optical doesn't matter. You have to look at the other properties of the sensor.
