Intel's high end X79 chipset is going to sell for a saucy $73 when it becomes available in November. Intel's Z68 remains the runner up chipset with $48 while the old X58 is out of the focus.

Fudzilla is a massive troll... I'm pretty sure that price is BOM from Intel to it's AIB partners.

Take the cheapest retail Z68 and double the price and you should have a more realistic price.

Prices should be in line with X58 chipsets upon release. So expect prices to start at ~$239 for entry-level boards.

wait a minute, I thought X79 was being nerfed, but that fudzilla article suggests it might still deliver 10 x SATA 6 ports which suggests otherwise

but yeah, I thought we were back to 2 x SATA6 and 4 x SATA3 on X79 like we have with the current 6 series chipsets...

unless he's just got things plain wrong I may just have a reason to go s2011 again

We're getting castrated x79 so that they can launch it in November as opposed to next year.

Wait I'm confused, sorry since I've haven't been too interested in reading "rumors" of intel's next scheme but I thought X79 was the next flagship chipset designed for Sandy bridge E but it also supports IVY bridge?

Or does it work like 1366 boards that will support gulftown architecture(this being ivy bridge).

This means that we'll have access to the boards pre 2012 but won't receive ivy bridge chips for it until 2H 2012?

My 2 cents is that the X79 will be more expensive than the X58 was... at least at launch.
