Confused about scratching sound o_O

Thread Starter
Hey everybody!
First off, here is what I am using -
ASUS Laptop
USB FiiO e7 DAC
Sennheiser HD598 Headphones

(Playing music though iTunes) no matter what song it is or at any volume, my audio comes out scratchy. Any sort of crescendo in the music and the scratchy-ness overpowers everything!
I'm fairly new to the whole audio game, and I really can't figure out how to solve this one... scratchy music is annoying, especially after spending money on my Fiio/HD598s

Any help, thoughts, or suggestions would be appreciated!!

There could be some kind of interference caused by bad shielding or weird frequencies or the sound card is going bad. Try with a different pair of headphones and see if you still hear that sound. With my pc i noticed if i had something plugged in to the usb port next to my audio ports i got interference.

Try different headphones first to confim it's not that.

Otherwise it sounds like a bad grounding or short to me, check your connection isn't loose, and that the jack inserts properly. Look to see if any of the nighbouring ports are mis-aligned in any way.

yep , then try this^

try the headphones in your PC (if you have one) the 598 are only 50 ohms so any sound card can drive them even on-boards

you did not say what is you laptop , but try the headphones without the E7
and see what happens

Sounds like you need to lower the volume on the computer to 80%. That goes mostly for the itunes program, then if it's still scratchy, try to lower volume on windows volume to 80% as well.
