Good examples of bad power supplies

Thread Starter
My sister is looking to replace her power supply since the system's been flaky lately and I blamed her old Rosewill PSU. I want to stress how important it is to get a good PSU from a reputable brand. Can you guys share links or photos of bad PSU's and their effects? I know I've seen some ugly pictures here of the charred remains of high-end systems with cheap PSU's but I can't seem to find them right now. And wasn't there a review for a 1000-1200 watt PSU that usually failed if the system used more than around 400 watts?

I've already given her recommendations on good PSU's, I just want to see the other end of the spectrum to scare her away from buying some budget $40 1500-watt PSU.

Which Rosewill? Most things Rosewill has released in the last two or three years have been quite good actually.

Here's a bad PSU:

hardwaresecrets has reviews of mediocre to terrible power supplies:

As an idea of actual products you can easily find:

Some more expensive units that are sold may just be similar to these.

Apparently the forum ate my last post.

I don't remember which Rosewill model but I think it's somewhere around 400 watts. I also doubt its efficiency since we measured it with a Kill-A-Watt. Her system draws more power when powered off (around 10 watts) than my system draws when on but in standby mode (only 1.5 - 2 watts). She has dual 8800 GTS's so her idle power is around 250 watts and I was afraid to fire up IBT and Furmark and max everything out.
