im a rookie, need help flashing 5870 bios

hey guys. so my alienware m17 wont shut down or restart...screen shuts off and the lights on the keyboard stay on.

everyone says to flash the bios. so, i downloaded it and extracted it, it asks for a usb drive, i put it in.

don't know what to do from there. do i restart it in a special way? but remember it won't let me have a natural restart. i am forced to hold the power down button.

basically, this rookie needs a step by step to flash the bios. i have a crossfired 5870.

thanks.

Uh, this is not a video card issue, I'm not sure who instructed you to flash your video card, but that's definitely not something you want to do. In fact, don't flash anything, because it's easy to ruin a computer by incorrectly flashing the Motherboard or GPU BIOS. In fact, I strongly advise that you call customer support to get the issue handled, as this is not something that sounds like a straight forward fix. DO NOT FLASH YOUR BIOS FOR ANY REASON UNLESS YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Like I said before, in your case I would call customer support rather than try different things and hope it fixes itself, cause you can void your warranty or even kill the computer entirely.

Also, if you want to shut down your laptop completely, just pull out the battery, though only resort to that if your computer is not turning off after you have chosen the shut-down option and have made sure the computer is not installing updates or is in the process of doing anything important.

They were probably referring to the motherboard bios not the gpu bios. So don't flash anything. Like was said above call your customer support.
